ok.. rant on!:x

ive been lookin at picking up a Nissan Skyline for some time now. Ive been looking over US Customs laws and regulations along with EPA standards and whatnot. Now (recently changed) you can only bring a 96-98 Skyline R33 into the states for import! Anything else will be turned away to be sold overseas or destroyed!!! :x WTF!!!

Heres where i am confused... How and the **** can this be legal to drive on the streets

but this isnt?

i gaurantee that the skyline has alot more saftey features then my "blazer"! Saftey standards are a joke, just another way for the government to have their hands in everyones pockets! Yes, newer cars will continue to get safer and safer and more standards will be set to do so... but if i had the choice to either drive a 79 camaro pos or a 99 skyline... my money is on the fact that the skyline has less emitions, more saftey features and gets better gas mileage.... so why am i forced to drive the camaro pos??? ya wanna know why? because it was dot approved at the time it was manufactured, even though it doesnt come anywhere near todays standards you can still buy it and title it and wreck it just like every other car out there. Heck, i can even get a kit car, build t from scratch and then tag it as a home built project even though it may fall apart going down the road, but yet i cant drive a well engineered hightech sports car on US soil.... Land of the free my foot!

even if you were to get a 96-98 r33... at any time some moron behind a desk can be all like, "those arent allowed for import anymore".. then you have to get rid of it!!!!!

Man this sucks!!!!

Im going for a beer!

Rant off :x

I cant remember the name of the company but there is a company in canada that imports them to there then they change a couple small things then import them here and sell them there is a guy that lives about an hour from where I live that has a right hand drive skyline that is super sweet. He got his for close to 40 grand he says but it has a ton of carbon fiber on it and aftermarket wheels and a big brake kit.

One idea to ponder. It is what a freind did to get a car into the states that was not legal to have here. It had to do with the engine and the emissions that it put out and other issues. He had the engine and drive train stripped out and had the "roller" sent in. Then he had the engine and tranny shipped a few months later by declaring it a race engine. A bit more work but it did work.

thanks to motorex you can no longer import vehicles into the us unless they are deemed classics... they got in a bunch of **** for illegal practices and the us stopped the import of performance vehicles from overseas... you can buy one that is already here but good luck.

I know a guy that owns a skyline and this is what he was telling me....

first off you wouldn't want a Skyline here. Every ****ing retard and their grandma jocks your ride cause it's the only one in the entire city/state! Everyoine asking if it's for sale, "wanna race", "can I sit in it?" etc...

I faintly remember him talking about the customs issue. He found it "wrecked" in Japan in some off the beaten path auto yard and imported it here. At customs they ripped out the stereo, HID lights, and tranny..... Then all the fees/other crap it adds up.

Easy way to get a skyline and not have anyone know.... Get yourself a 240 and swap in the new RB 26 skyline motor. People still jock you cause it's a 240but they don't know it's a skyline 2.5L under the hood!

only if your planning to drive it on the streets... if you wanted a trailer queen for shows and the drag strip... that would be awsome....

i guess even if you bring it over as a perminate show/track car, you have to have it in writing with pre-approval from both DOT and the EPA, and once it is shipped the EPA gets it to do ICI "upgrades" and then you get to pick it up....
