Injured veteran paralyzed could use rc help

ALL Ive heard from everyone except one futaba guy that spek 6i would be way to go, i guess later i can sell other remotes right!

Yes I would love your help setting up, give me a couple days and let me look around on getting one.....just got my star so ill start here.

THANKS MAN

You'll want to get the throttle return mod done to it. The left, throttle stick, doesn't have a return on the vertical axis. Horizon will do the mod for free if you send it in to them. If you're buying it new, your local hobby shop may even be able to order one with the mod already done.

I, personally, switched sticks from side to side, leaving no return on the right stick's vertical axis. I also had to pull the wires from the plugs and re-arrange their configuration.

Let me know once you get it, and I'll post up my exact setup for you.

Hey Brandon,

My name is Jason Hensel, I'm with Team Carnage Crew and used to compete with you in UROC, I am also one of the owners of this site. I'm suprised you didn't sign up with your other alias, "The Nightstand" I remember that night back in Cedar City when rock crawling used to be fun.

I think the best setup for you would be an MOA setup, it would allow the most versatility in controls for you. MOA stands for Motor On Axle. Basically you can power each axle seperatly for front and rear dig, and you can vary the power to each motor so instead of full dig you can have the front at say 60% and the rear at 40%.

With this setup and a stick radio you should be able to do pretty well even with limited wrist movement.

Shoot me a pm and we can chat some more.

You are a HERO!

1) for serving our country.
2) for having the courage to pursue something that most would not.

I'm new to this as well, so I wont waist your time on recommendations. Man, I wish I wasn't on the other side of the US (I'm in east MI), Id be over in a flash and we could get you going.

My best wishes to you on what ever you pursue! If there are any questions that I actually could help with, I will!!!

"thumbsup"

DX6i, would be the radio for you for sure. I'm president of CORA USA, and we've got a program called Active Kids, we specialize in getting kids involved in R/C hobbies. We are currenty using 4 tube chassis crawlers for the kids with Spectrum (pistol grip radios) But, we have thought about the hospital kids as well. We've put small dog latches on a length of cord, the latch attaches to the tube chassis, and if it flops, it can be drug back, or back over.
With the stick radio, you can get some styrafoam balls from a hobby store and press them on to the sticks. You could also use tennis balls, just drill or cut a hole in them, then fill them with some expandable foam, when the foam dries, drill a hole the size of the sticks on the radio, and put them on. This should let you have better control of the radio's functions using your wrists.
A fishing pole works too so that you can get the crawler "UP" and out of the rocks.

Thanks for your service to our country, I hope you can enjoy that crawler, they're a blast. Jason's right I think tho, an MOA might get you the best of what you're after. A shafty, is good for realiz'm tho.

IF you get the erge to ditch the Slash 4x4 for a tube chassis crawler, PM me."thumbsup"

the styrofoam ball idea is awsome, my ex who is a c6/7 quad with slight hand and decent wrist movement was able to run a stick radio pretty good, so you have the desire and the will to do it i know youll be able to with the right gear"thumbsup" dx 6 sounds good with the return spring mod. good luck8)

As a injured vet myself,my hats off to you for staying with a hobby you enjoy.I know with all the brilliant minds on this board, something can be created to fit your needs once they start thinking for a bit.I was injured during the first tour to Afghanistan just after 9/11 and now run a small crawlers group for the younger kids in the area. They can come use the rigs and get to help repair and see the workings of how they are built and overall they have fun.Best of luck with finding something that will accommodate your needs.

Whats up Knife,
What part of UT do you live in? I would be more than willing to give you a hand with anything you need help with. PM me and we can chat more!

MOA RIG?
I love my rig now but prolly isnt comp rig.

Is there rules about cars vrs cars in comp? axles motors etc?
what if a guy in wheelchair competes against guys that can stand? do they make it even or do i have to spank emm sittin on my arse??????
hehehe:lmao:

I live in so. jordan. where u bee?

My girl and a few others have had spotters (just like the full size guys) help them. I would think they might make some provisions for you, BUT,,, Being military, I'm sure you can adapt and over come.
Your dhafty rig will do you fine, just work on set up. (check out the Axial tips and tricks sticky) There's alot of info there on what you can do that don't cost money but WORKS. The DX6i with the return spring mod will be Awesome, try the balls (he' he') and see what size works for you.

I would like to see a provision for the handicapped in the rules book myself, but the more like your self that get involved the better. I think crawling is a great sport for those with disabilities who want to reach out beyond their restriction. Keep up the good work.

That could be a bad part, some of the comps are held in places that might be hard to get around in your chair, just to the nature of the terrain.

I know in the past we have had some people that needed extra time to get around and we've never had a problem stopping the time for them to get where they needed to be.

In your case I'd also have no problem with someone else being right there with you to help flip the rig over and guide you and stuff like that.

There is a good group of guys in your area, check out http://utrcrc.com/

Knife, I live in South Jordan as well. PM me and ill give you my number!

Here's a PDF you can download and read the complete USRCCA rules for RC crawling.

I also think you should look into an MOA style truck. Looking through the Berg section, you'll get some good ideas on all the different set ups guys run on MOA style builds. Pages and pages of great build threads. There's so many ways a guy can build one and have it work well.

I don't know much about hooking up and running the stick style radio's as I prefer pistols and that's all I've ever ran. I can't help much with that part. If you get a few ideas going and need a part,or several parts of your build changed up a little to suit you better,I'd be glad to help with that."thumbsup" Shoot me a PM if you like.8)

As far as comps go yah i dont want to cry babie for help and an advantage but i would like to just make sure its FAIR for all.

Spotter yeah that would be cool i guess. If you roll are you penalized?
Maybe Ill have to start indoors till i figure out crawling outdoors and navigating terrain?????? tough
Unless it would be cool to have all radio men in one drivers box then have a spotter for each that guides/helps/flips then drivers are equal with sight line.
Like I said no special treatment just attempts at including us also.
Trust me nothing feels worse than not being treated equal and allowing us help we need.
And lets face it, alot of people DON'T CARE to help, they just judge,,,SUCKS

Id appreciate your help with getting me crawling...."thumbsup"
I wanna build a new KOH KAR and a great comp crawler maybe replicate my black wolf comp buggy and could use help with my platinum slash.......

Thanks pardner, man this board has some pretty cool peeps:mrgreen:

Thank you so much, I appreciate it.......GREATLY.
Im gonna post what im doing soon so hopefully i can pick your brain and yes maybe you can help me build/fabricate/design my ideas, im gonna need help and not only for myself, but other injured individuals and alot of kids and allow us to take part in this cool hobby.
Man im on info overload, ive learned so much from guys here,amazing........

Looks like berg is highly saught after for comp car???

How come? whats there edge?

The big thing for many of us is that we don't know how to help without being overbearing. I know that there's a balance when helping somebody with a disability. Many people think they just need to do everything for the person, while others do nothing.

I think the most difficult thing is knowing how much help is necessary, and then doing just enough while still allowing the person to feel that they're capable of carrying on. I guess it's just like learning anything...through successes and failures.

The berg is a readily available axle (the rest of the kit is pretty much worthless) with tons of aftermarket support. The MOA design allows for an extremely low COG and independant control of the front and rear axle.

I, personally, use the machined RC4wd Bully axles on a T1e Rockshow chassis (just like their Moonbuggy, but with a different cab).

With a stick radio and dual speed controls, you would have full control of exactly how much power is applied to either axle.

Putting the drivers in a drivers box would be great fun, more like the real thing. I think you would have a better chance of getting scalers on board with the idea. They seem more laid back and not as worried about who is better, its more about who is more creative.

I'm piecing a scaler together for that reason... laid back

The biggest thing for me,like Jason described,is the electronic dig over a mechanical dig. The new mechanical digs out now do work great, don't get me wrong. A mechanical dig will never be as fast and as predictable as a electronic dig. Touch a button, instant front dig/rear dig or 4WD. Throw in 2 ESC's and a little getting used to,you can make a MOA driven truck do some crazy things."thumbsup"

There's other options but Berg platforms are by far the most popular right now. There's allot of buzz going around about the new Axial truck that will be released soon. Can't wait for that. Once that comes out,I think the competition will be left standing with their jaw sitting on the ground.
