iPhone VS Driod

I am planning on picking up a Droid after the holidays. The only reason I'm going with the droid is because I have been a verison customer for years now.

Binary, let's not get confused here... the droid actually has 512mb for total on board memory. Half is sub divided out of the box for contacts, calander, mms, sms, email and other misc user data. That 256mb remaining is all for apps. That's all it can be used for. Then there is the additional 256mb of ram for system process and then there is another 256mb for graphics this is in addition to the 600mhz processor that has been downclocked to 500mhz of processing power, tho it bursts up to the full 600mhz when running apps, and multitask operations are requested. Then there is the secondary processor that just drives the phone and messaging/email applications that is 500mhz.

The droid also uses the most popular, and smallest size of files for contacts (vcard) even with every field full, the largest file size I have ever seen is 9kb. The iphone doesn't store anything as effeciently as the droid does, or for that matterf any other phone on the market. Blame apples os for that one.

Granted the droid doesn't have as much built in memory as the iphone... however, as I stated before, it doesn't need it. I downloaded the entire guitar hero game on my droid with songs (graphically exactly the same as what's on the iphone) and my total file size was only 3.4mb. Why so small... because one thing the droid does do well is move stuff to and from the memory card. Basically, in any game, the main core app would be loaded to the phone and the extra stuff (music, pictures, tracks, and everything else gets stored on the card..

Now I hear your concern, but some of my games are huge... true, and that's fine. What I am telling you is that they aren't that big on the droid for the same size file, and early next year when the wrap up the process of playing entire apps from the memory card your concern will be a thing of the past.

Simply put, the droiddoes.

And the iphone, as all powerfull as some think it is, is simply old news. Time to let go and move on. Nothing wrong with still having one, but its just not on the level anymore. It was cutting edge. But technology has advanced. Yes, a 49 caddy was a great, revolutionary car, but it can't compete with a 2010 benz. And that's what this conversation comes down to.

Keep lying to the masses; even Motorola doesn't list your unique thoughts.

The Apple is a all in one chip unit capable of the same multi-tasking that Apple has yet to turn on.

Ahh...you mean people never add photos to their contacts or custom ring tones? While the ringtones are linked the photos get stored in the vCard "field". While some might not do this, the majority do on cell phones. Even in work environments though using just outlook. I deal with these all the time at work.

The iphone doesn't store anything as effeciently as the droid does, or for that matterf any other phone on the market. Blame apples os for that one.

One is based on Linux and one on BSD/Unix. Very similar systems. If you know Unix vs. Linux you'd understand this.

Again, then why do companies still want it...why did the Droid get designed around the same platform concept. Why are they still copying it...if in the end its so old. The thing is your analogy is incorrect. The iPhone would be a 2008 Benz, while the Droid is the 2010 Cadillac (just behind in actually being revolutionary, but stealing the design cues/ideas of its competition).

I see you mention nothing of the HTC unit. I wonder why Google, you know the Android designer like HTC over the Motorola unit? Droid copied the 600mhz processor...HTC didn't.

One thing soundcolor will never view, because of his impartial look is simple. iPhone's only competitor in and of itself is other brands using different systems entirely. The Android platform will become the PC wars all over. Without controlling the hardware...phone makers will be putting more and more at it...obsoleting the Droid faster than any iPhone. HTC Passion/Bravo being worked on with Google has a 1GHZ processor, more RAM, bigger and better screen technology than both the Droid and iPhone. Oh and a properly designed battery door. I've heard the Bravo/Passion will be available on T-Mobile and Verizon.

To let the OP better decide the honest method is simple:
1. Which service works better in your area, AT&T or VZW. This will point you which way you should look. Even the best phone on a weak network in your area will be limited.
2. Go to the store and use the store displays. They are salespeople often times they will own them and let you use theirs should it help them sell.

Wow, both of you guys are going WAY over mine and most peoples heads on this, I. Was simply just stating that the Droid is a cool phone that will do the same cool stuff that the Iphone does. Most people don't really care about processor speeds and where the info gets stored, they just care if it works as good as they think it should.

Maybe I shouldn't have gotten involved in this thread but I was just getting sick of Iphone fanatics bashing the Droid saying its junk. Its a great phone with a lot of great features and its a great alternative to the Iphone.

People can argue specs all day, but will come down to what you are happy with, I'm a bit of a non conformist, that's the reason why I won't run a Beetlejuice chassis, everyone and their brother runs one, I'm not saying they are not a great product, just that I won't get one just because everyone else is doing it. I still beat those beetlejuice chassis guys everytime I run against em. LOL!

Ok. End rant...

And Jake, I really have no clue how we both finds threads like this and seem to get on polar opposites of the discussion, its really nothing personal, I assure you. LOL!

I have a couple questions about the droid and verizon in general:

1. one of the coolest apps on the iPhone is the dynamometer app (I forget the exact name) Does the droid have accelerometers in it like the iPhone?

2. I have been thinking about getting a droid and selling it immediately to make some $$$. Would Verizon try to stick me with any unforseen costs (penalties, have to stay on the data plan?) or would I just be stuck with my razr for another two years?

Thanks!

Dude I take none of this personal man. It's internet wars. Look at Dezfan and my past...yet we still get along.

I have nothing against the Droid...just its fanbois. Much like the Droid fanbois hate us iPhone fanbois. It will never end (mustang vs. camaro)...well Droid might be running from the HTC, I think that will be their bigger concern shortly. As an iPhone user I would not go Droid mainly because of Motorola, but this HTC built Google Nexus One/Bravo/Passion might make me move.

Oddly I think the Droid thinks it will gain customers by being negative towards the iPhone. Problem is Apple people stay loyal no commercial will ruin their love, and new customers more and more hate the negative ads done politician style.

luckily for me, being an authorized agent for verizon, I have access to alot of really usefull information about all the phones we carry.
So, when I speak on the subject of cell phones I more than likely know exactly what I am talking about. Just so we clear all of this tech stuff up, I am going to take the liberty of posting up some very relevant info here that will clear the air as to which phone is indeed better.
Binary, you are completely and totally wrong. The apply os for the iphone is not unix. It is an apply propitary os built just for the iphone called os x. It was built in house by apple, and in no way has anything unix in it. To the contrary, android is built on a linux base. It is not linux, but a completley seperate and independantly designed os that was built off of linux.
On to the tech specs. (pulled from phonescoop.com)

as for the moto droid having dual processors... heres your proof.
http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile/dr-wreck-does-the-droid-teardown-droid-20091112/

I just also happen to have some launch materials from moto in my hands right now that compare the three phones listed above... unfortunatly, I cant show it to you (I know, I know... but trust me, it wont be much longer until the full capabilities about the droid are released, and everyones mind is blown... They are waiting for apple to announce the specs on he "new iphone". All I can say is that they built the droid to kill the new iphone that is in the works, not the current one...)
Keep your iphone if you want, get the new one when its released if thats your thing. Just dont spread the same infectious lies about it that apple and all the iphone phannuts have been spreading since day one. Its a decent phone. Lets let the actual specs, and facts speak for themselves. I have presented them time and time again.... and I will continue to put a fact out there for every lie some iphone user spills out on the masses... because I for one am sick of apples lies, and I think its about time someone stepped up witha device to put it in its place. Its not jesus... nor is it the jesus phone. There have been better devices out there for a while now. The difference is, no one has challanged and attacked apple directly. Moto has, and the DROIDDOES

no, I'm just sick of the iphone, and all the lies people tell about it.

You'd almost think that it created the heavens and earth...

wait i'm pretty sure apple did create heaven and earth....then they locked it up so nobody else can use it..ha

because of androids open source nature, the fact that only about 256mb of its memory is dedicated to apps is not a concern.

overclocking and resource management app anyone?

gotta love open source !

and as for apple not running bash campains, "i'm a mac, and i'm a pc" ring a bell? yes i know that the ads are aimed towards pc's and not cell phones. but as a avid windows and ubuntu user i dont mind droid getting their jabs in.

Facts will prove I'm right.

Here's where you need to think beyond phones.
1. Do you know anything about Linux/Unix?
2. Did you know that all variants of OS X are built on Unix?

It was not built for the iPod/iPhone specifically. OS X is in fact a full operating system for computers. It has been ported to their Apple mobile devices since it has proven to be highly acceptable and desired by users due to its highly visual aspect on a completely rock solid Unix background.

Straight from apple.com: Mac OS X is the world’s most advanced operating system. Built on a rock-solid UNIX foundation and designed to be simple and intuitive, it’s what makes the Mac innovative, highly secure, compatible, and easy to use.

Wikipedia: Mac OS X, whose "X" represents the Roman numeral for "10" and is a prominent part of its brand identity, is a Unix-based operating system, built on technologies developed at NeXT between the second half of the 1980s and Apple's purchase of the company in late 1996. Apple also produces specialized versions of Mac OS X for use on three of its consumer devices: the iPhone OS for the iPhone and iPod Touch.

You're coming off no better. Yes, I have an iPhone, but unlike you, I really don't care if somebody makes a better phone, app, etc.

Verizon screwed me over in their take-over of Alltel or I'd probably be a VZW customer. Between their screwups w/ handling the Alltel customers and the local VZW store's sales people all being un-knowledgeable, lying douchebags, I was driven to another company. Just happened that the only other carrier with decent coverage in my area is AT&T. I shopped all of their phones, and the iPhone 3G (not even the newer 3Gs) ended up a perfect fit. Does it do everything perfectly? No. Has it become an invaluable tool for the daily operations of my business? Yes. It has been the most useful phone I've had to date.

So what if VZW has a better or worse phone? I don't care. I have this one & it works fine. Would I swicth to VZW? At this point, probably not. Between my local salesmen, and your anti-everything that you don't sell attitude, You people are driving away customers. Throw on top of that horrible call-in support from Verizon, and you people = FAIL. "thumbsup"

As for your horrible experiences with verizon, and the merger with alltell. I apologize for the bad experience you had. It has been incrediably trying for us as well as for our customers. It is totally unacceptable and the problems with your local store and customer care certainlhy didn't help the situation any.
if you ever want to give us another shot, call me directly. I can assure you, I will be there every step of the way, and you can call me at any time with questions.

To the unix debate. If all apple did was slap the apple name on unix and call it there own, well that says a lot. The fact is, mac os x is no more unix than android is linux.

I don't hate the iphone... I hate the lies. Apple and all its followers are fine bashing others, but let someone step up and say one word about you precious's and all hell breaks loose.
