Jeep Grand Cherokee (Rick's Build)

first, these are awesome builds and threads! i love reading them. question....how are your modified axles holding up? any probs front or rear? did you use the air hardend 5mm steel?
thanks

They are holding up great, the little 1.9 tires don't give the axles much of work out though. The drivetrain is a wee bit overbuilt it's like using rockwells for 33"s. I like it that way though, this seems to be the one rig that never breaks. Front axle has no issues it's still tight and works great. Rear axle is working very well to, 5mm Air hardened Rod from Mcmaster. With the tiny tires the diff seems to get in the way at times but the rig performs great.

thanks. thats what i wanted to hear. i'm hoping to start a 1.9 soon, (cant decide on body.) it looks like the rear shaft would be prone to bending outboard of the case. i guess the tubing helps strengthen it though. thanks again and keep up the awesome work!

No probably not, black plasitc doesn't scratch off like paint. Jim experimented with paint, the truck would only look good for about 3 runs.

your level of creativity is incredible!! I stayed up an extra 3 hours tonight reading the entire post and enjoying Ricks great adventure. The VID link blew me out of my chair! Eisenhower tunnel brought back great memories, the desert looked great.

You've movitated me to build a scale rig. Thank you!

REALLY LIKED THE VID!!!!!!!!!!!!! I even noticed at the end of the vid, Jim was even steering!!!!!!!!!!:shock:

Does Jim have any plans for the rear of his truck?? to me it just looks really big and bulky. I think it would look good dovetailed?!

keep it up!!!!

Thanks, Yeah I'd like to do something about that rear end of the truck. However, whatever I would do to it would probably just make it look worse. Maybe I'll experiment though.

Rick has still been working on this Jeep. He's really having issues finding tires of the perfect size that grip well. Those TSL's are pretty worn and don't grip.
