Remember back in post #11 when I said the servo I'm using is ~1.5mm taller than the max size listed in the manual? Well, the end result is that the servo horn hits this link mount.

I like the look of the new sliders, but I do wonder if those ridges will get hung up on the rocks. I can't wait to put them to the test and find out.

Kinda disappointed that Axial didn't include the little LED holders for the bumpers. I mean, the holes are there, would it have hurt to include the little tabs to hold in the lights? Luckily I had some from another build.

It's an extension for the bind plug. I have a couple of different radios I use depending on what cars the kids want to drive.
I have since moved the ESC connection outside the box as I've needed to use the Castle Link.

Ok, so the build is done* for now. It was raining this morning, so I couldn't get any proper photos. It should be nice when I get home, though. In the meantime here are a few general thoughts on the kit and build before even driving it:
- I built the whole kit and was only missing one o-ring for the shocks. Not too bad for an early production kit. My Yeti kit had no motor mount and a Dingo kit I recently built for my dad came with the slipper clutch parts for 48p gears but the spur shaft for the newer 32p gear.
- The instructions were pretty clear.
- The plastics feel good. The links are beefy. There are some fiddly-bits when putting together the CMS/battery tray, but it's nice and solid once it's all put together.
- The body is as thin as everyone says it is. The top is OK, but the tailgate is downright floppy. That said, it looks amazing.
- The front bumper is huge.
- I'll probably never use the trailer hitch (and will likely end up removing it for performance reasons), but I kinda love that it's included.
- The rock sliders aren't even straight. They curve. This is not intentional. Or good.
- The radio box being molded into the skid/slider seems like an odd choice. I'd have preferred it be separate so it could be moved around (or not used at all).
- The tires are a bit wider than I'd like, but they still look pretty cool. Stock foams seem pretty decent.
- The old transmission is definitely easier to work on.
- Be careful putting in the spur cover. The screw holes crack easily.
- The downgrades to the shocks are a bummer. All will be forgiven if they don't leak.
- Axial really should have included the LED holders for the bumpers.
More thoughts as they come to me. All-in-all it was a very enjoyable build. Now I'm going to stare at the clock and count down the minutes until I get home to play with it.
*Yes, I know these toy trucks are never done. A few things I know I'd like to do before even having taken this thing outside:
- Winch
- Interior
- Tail lights and brake lights
- Light bar
I'm also anxious to see if we get any cool XJ-inspired metal bumpers coming out.

Very Nice! I love the color; is it Gun Metal? How did you get the wheel flares to appear flat black?

Paint the outside of the lexan with flat black. If you score the fender flares with an exact-o knife first, then the protective film will act like painter's tape.

Yeah, Tamiya gun metal. I painted the flares black on the inside and then hit the outside with SpazStix matte clear.

Thanks! I used Lil' Nova 4.50" Comp Cut. I did soft outer foams in the front and medium in the rear. For a stock weight rig (which this is, basically) that seems pretty good to me. If it gets any heavier I'll probably go up to mediums in the front.

No problem. Seems like a popular combo. I was torn between the Gun Metal and the Mustard Yellow. My LHS didn't have the yellow in stock, so Gun Metal it was! I'm pretty happy with it.

Thanks! Right now I've just got 2 of the Axial simple light controllers in there. Once I figure out something for the tail lights I'll probably get a HeyOK brake/reverse light controller like I run in my G6.

i have a question did your transmission feel like the gears are super tight when assembling ? and after the build did you free role it ? and did it move Farley easy or feel like theirs allot of drag ? like if someone is holding the brakes ?
