Johnny builds an SCX-10 II XJ

The XJ has 125 miles and counting on its little odometer. Still rulz.

Over the weekend I let my 10 year old toss this rig around the crawler course at my LHS. It's a tough course where I've broken many a part on my other rigs. I have to admit I was a little worried given Axial's current inventory woes. It wasn't about to stop me from letting him drive it, though! He did great, with some really nice throttle control and more patience than I expected. The truck came through with a few new scratches and a smiling driver.

Have you changed wheels again? My favourite look out of the ones you have shown are the Gmade steelies with rock beasts. I ordered that setup for my truck.

Ha! Yes, I did. I had this Gearhead/Mad Beast combo on my G6 Wrangler for a while. I wanted to see how much body rubbing I'd get with a little bit taller tire. On the bench they rub a fair amount. Out on the trails it's pretty negligible.

Oh, and it's fun and easy to swap out wheels and tires. Now only if it wasn't so darn expensive...
 
With the SCX-10II continuing to be a rock solid runner, I spent some time doing a bit more aesthetic tweaking. Soooooo...

- Pro-line Interior
- Driver
- Knight Customs tail lights
- HeyOK light controller
- Vanquish Method Roost wheels
- RC4WD Atturo Trail Blade tires
- CI dual stage foams

Quick notes: The interior is a bit small but workable. Daryl Dixon got chopped up to drive this thing. Very happy to ditch the tail light stickers. When I originally bought wheels for this rig I was torn between the Method 105 and the Method Roost. I went with the 105s, which I love, but realized I'd eventually end up with the Roosts as well when I saw Imthatguy's build. Also, I'm addicted to wheels and tires. So are you, probably.

Hi Johnny,

I am wondering did you get the 45 degree steering angle as advertised by axial? I have just finished my build and find out that it does not have 45 degree when going forward but can have 45 degree when going backward. anyway when going backward the tire will rub the link. if i set the steering rate it will not rub the link but i will have even smaller angle when going forward. did you experience this too?thanks

Fun build to go threw, thanks for taking the time. Did you ever stop the leaks in Shocks?
I've rebuilt mine 3 times now and can't seem to stop the leaking on the bottom. :(

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! No. The Axial shocks always leak. The good news is they still seem to work reasonably well while they'e leaking.

Yeah same here. Making sure they weren't binding at all during full travel does seem to have paid off tho. I used longer screws at front which freed them up off the boomracing towers I've used.

Can someone spell out what's wrong with the instructions in the first post? I'm about to build my kit and I want to make sure I do it right "thumbsup"

I've surrounded my proline body with foam from some packing (new axles) and added some small velcro to fasten it in the shell.

Oh, and some slightly oversized Barbies. That's ok isn't it? Hehe.
