I just left a gap. It's not really noticeable once it's all together.

Tried it. No luck. At some point I'll swap out the shocks, but for now I can deal with cleaning off the gunk and topping off the oil every once in a while.

This was one of the most enjoyable and informative reads I have read. Just getting into crawling/trailing. Coming from indoor clay racing. My SCX10 kit will be here next week. Can’t wait!! I’m a tire and wheel guy too!! Still can’t decide on my first set of rims... thank God I don’t have to glue anymore!!

I have just read the entire thread. Nice to read :)
I am currently building this kit as my first rc car, also with the puller pro stubby 2700kv but with a mambax esc.
Can u help me with giving me your esc settings? Like brake/reverse type, brake amount, drag brake amount, .... I have no idea how I have to set them for a trail rig.
It would be a great help for me.

A late response, but it's in crawler (f/r) mode. I can't remember my exact brake settings. My guess is the drag brake is around 60%. If I set it too high the kids will do front flips every time I hand them the controller.

I've actually got bunch of parts for this thing waiting for me to find a free afternoon. Since nothing was breaking (yes, I realize I've just cursed it), I decided to get some upgrades I *want* instead of ones I *need*. It's gonna be fun...
 
OK, long time no update on this rig. That changes now!

One thing that has always nagged at me about this rig are the droopy plastic sliders. They've looked like this since day one:

Well, that won't do! I mean, they work, but it always bugged me that they weren't straight. Since the rig has been so solid and not cost me a lot of money in fixes and necessary upgrades, I'm going to fix the spaghetti sliders! How about this...

I just wanted to say that I really enjoyed reading all 7 pages of this build. Your write up and photos were great! can you share your camera setup? I just finished my scx10ii kit and looked to this thread for inspiration. I cant believe you made it so long with the stock bumpers! I have only driven mine a few miles and cant stand them. that will be some of my first upgrades. I look forward to seeing pictures of all your new parts installed

I like the look of the stock bumpers, so I put up with them. They weren't an issue on most trails, but they certainly became a challenge when the going got tough. I'll say this for them, they make you a better driver! You really need to be able to pick your lines.

As for cameras, I use a few. All of the photos out on the trails are just iPhone shots. I like to travel light. The build photos are usually from an old Sony RX100 that takes nice pictures but is small enough to not get in the way while I'm wrenching. Only for the backyard glamour shots after a build or significant upgrades do I bust out my DSLR.

Thanks! I give the rig a quick cleaning every once in a while. I don't go crazy in mud either. I leave that to my boys.

While I was making some updates, I figured I'd try on some new shoes. I've wanted ProLine KO2s on this rig for a long, long time. The size is spot on for this rig. The Axial ones are just so wide. For whatever reason I kept putting off picking up a set. No more! I picked up some of the newer SSD steelies (no beadlock ring... nice) and I'm very happy with the look. Just need to get some locked up acorns to round them out. This will no quite nicely...
