JSLICK VOODOO Review

Those of you who have been following this thread know that I put a huge hurting on my GOLD ULTRA soft a while back on some wet lichen covered rock. I wanted to see how much life the tires have in them, so I turned the tires around and split the pins. I was very happy with the result. The whupped tires still have good forward bite, however I had another set of GOLDS laying around and I wanted to use them. I am running the 6in comp cut closed cell inners with Med outers all the way around. Here are some pics of the old and new tires and cut pin patterns I like so far.

I have to get some more time in on the 6in comp cut foams and medium outers in the gold up front and blue in the rear. I was comfortable with the 5.5 closed cell with the medium up front and the and soft in the rear. The larger size will take some getting use to. I also added a 1/2 oz to each wheel.

Still a work in progress to find what works well on the rocks in my area.

Im running the same cut as your new cut. It seems to work very well for me. However its the only cut ive tried since cutting pins. When i get some new tyres i may experiment with a different cut too.
Keep up the good info "thumbsup"

Is that a recommended cut for both front and rear on a Sporty? I'd like to get rid of some bounce during slip.

I have not run my VOODOOS on my sporty yet, it is an LCC and is a PIG when it comes to weight. I have only cut the front on all of the tires I have tested. The old setup with the GOLD ULTRA SOFT, 5.5 closed cell inner and medium outer up front did not have much bounce at all, they stayed stable and the sidehilling was good. I have not had enough time on the 6in closed cell comp cut inner with the medium outer to make an informed answer yet. The weather has been wet around here and I have not had the chance to get as much testing in as I would like. Next week I will be able to spend a good amount of time on the new set up. From my experience removing pins tends to give more bite. That is why I like the uncut BLUES in the back. They bite well at low speeds but can be broken loose with a little speed.

Just go in 4 SILVER VOODOO yesterday, I am going to mount them up on my sporty. I have an LCC that is a big boned girl compared to many other rigs out there. My scale only goes up to 5lbs, probally in the 7lbs range. I have some tweaking to do on it like putting the LNC trans in to drop a bit of weight, I am also looking at the ECD Ringer Chassis. I will get the tires mounted up today. I really wish the weather would be more cooperative lately.

Added some anodized bling to my Black Ice beadlock rings.

I have been very happy with the GOLD up front with the CI comp cut closed cell inners with Medium outers and for the BLUES in the rear with the comp cut closed cell inner and medium outer. The closed cell inner makes a world of difference when it comes to side hilling.

I finally broke down and did a bit of lug trimming in the rear, I can still break it loose when needed to but the lugs on the sides give me just the right amount of bite.

Had a chance this morning to go out to my favorite local comp and practice spot and burn through 5 GENS ace 450 packs.
I like the size of these packs on the front axle and can get me through a course with no issues.

It rained here yesterday afternoon so I was not sure how much bite I would be getting out of my VOODOO.
I was pleasantly suprised that the worn in tires gripped better in the damp than when I ran them when they were newer.

My next paycheck I'll be getting some SILVERS and Turbofest has been nice enough to narrow them up for me after Nationals.
I really think that the silvers will be my all around tire.

I have no complaints about the GOLDS in the front and the BLUES in the rear. They give me great bite and have been sidehilling very well with the 6in C.I. closed cell "comp cut". I have to admit though I am tough on tires and have burned through two sets of GOLDS in the front in the past 3-4 months. The BLUES in the rear are just now showing some wear.

I did some basic trimming to the inside and outside of the pins. The two rows on the outside give me some nice bite and stability sidehilling. The three rows on the inside have helped when crossing a gap into an off camber climb. I left the center solid because they bite well but I can break them free with some wheel speed to push the rear around to square up for a climb.

Even with the 6in comp cut I still get some wrapping of the tire, I don't mind because it does not effect how the rig reacts.

The rear outside lugs doing work.

Had a great weekend with the Garden State club GSRCRC. they were comp'n up at one of our clubs favorite places here in PA. The town is called Palmerton and it is the highest gripping rock I have ever driven on. I really like the grip of the golds up front and the stability of the firm blues in the back. Here are two of the videos from that day.
I have to admit I need to curb my language a bit.
Four of us went into the last course tie with -39.

I ended up in fourth because I did not get through gate 8.

Turbofest was the only driver out of 7 that finished it.

Well this past weekend we had our last big GTG for 2013. I was concerned with the temp. dropping and the performance of the tires. During the day the temp did not get above 42*F. The average temp. was 38*F. I was very happy with how the tires performed, the golds in the front remained pliable and the blues in the rear were working well. I saw no measurable loss of performance in the cold.

Well it has been a long time since I have posted anything up about my tires.
I am happy to see that the performance of my tires has not diminished with their wear.
I have been running the same BLUE compound on the rear since I bought them.
The GOLD compound tires on the front have been replaced once.
I am so happy that OTTSIX brought such a great tire to the drivers.
The CI comp cut inners have been an awesome addition to these tires.
Here are a couple pics of the tires as they are now and some from our comp at Rausch Creek Off Raod Park, where the Northeast National Qualifier will be held the end of June.

Im finding this very interesting.
I got a set of 4 silvers and i hope I made the right choice. I just hope they work like golds.

SILVERS are a great compound, they are not as foam tuning dependant. I have a narrowed set of them and they work great. "thumbsup" You will be very happy with them. I have not trimmed any lugs off my silvers yet, they hook up great. The place where we had our comp yesterday is where we will be hosting the Northeast National Qualifier. The rock is very grippy, there are places where the full size rigs have gone that have rubber all over the rocks and it is crazy slippery. It makes it quite a challenge.
Between the two driving surfaces these rocks eats tires.
I was very happy to place 2nd against some great drivers.

rte thats given me a bit more confidence..
Cant wait to see how they go on rock vs my chisels
Can I ask where is the best place to get the voodoos from. I got mine from I think it was carawler innovations

Can I ask what is gained with different pin pattern. Can you tell the difference between on the rocks?

Are you still venting the tire and wheel or just the wheel? Thanks

With the closed cell inners it is easier to vent the tires. My wheels are also vented but the inners do not breathe. Crawler Innovations had a combo deal on wheels and foams. I have not checked there recently. The best place to order them would be through OTTSIX.com

The pin pattern gives a more consistent traction patch. With the lugs trimmed it has let the individual lugs be more effective. I know some drivers have also been splitting the lugs in half. I did this after they were pretty worn down. It seems to extend their life. I have been running a set of narrowed up silvers with good success with no lug trimming.
