KC's commemorative build (ACTION PICS!)

Re: KC's commemorative build

"thumbsup" Looks like some tight quarters in the clearance dept. Interested to see how the test run goes!

Its not too tight. I changed the panhard to a stainless 4/40 allthread and it now contours the pumpkin perfect. Just gotta sleeve that and the draglink. It clears full bump and full left and right bump. Nothin touches. Should have a test run vid this weekend. I'm pretty excited to drive it.

I also changed back to the origional susp setup full spung rear and maybe 30% droop front . Had to cause I hadn't figured in battery weight when I had it the other way pictured above. But its perfect now. Just gotta hit the rocks!

Re: KC's commemorative build

couple lil updates

got the final rendition of the panhard and drag link made.

used 6/32 all thread w/ axial rodends sleeved with heat shrink.

panhard is bent to contour the pumkin as best i could even at full bump i have over 1/4" clearance all the way around.

also fabbed up a brush/rock guard to keep the rocks off the steering linkage
IMG_20120208_210002.jpg

here it is with the susp at full extend so you can see that its impossible for the steering link to get snagged.

not gonna be able to work on this till friday due to my military obligations but next up fabbing a front bumper. it will also cover the guards mount bolts so itll look more clean when finished.

I LOVE the links sleeved in heat shrink! They look very scale, though I wonder how they'll look once they see some rocks? Very nice for now. Steering angle is boobs!"thumbsup"

Thx bro! The panhard and draglink shouldn't get messed up but I'm certain the primary steering linkage will get dinged up hence I'm gonna make a new one that's sleeved in metal not soft plastic. Lol

I wanna get off duty so can make the front bumper and get people intrested in this again. Thing went dry after the first 2 days even tho I went on a building spree. Lol any who I wanted this build to be a look at how I did it instead of a look what I did kind of build.

The rig looks great! I do worry about you bending or breaking the all thread with it not sleeved with brake tubing though. lmk how it turns out and how durable it is. I am loving all the hilux builds! keep up the great work!

That's one of the best aspects of this build! Sharing and showing your work and techniques. Don't focus on who's watching and post counts and replies....Do good work...be confident in your skills, and know that your effort is appreciated. I know plenty of lurkers with skills that are inspired by builds like this that eventually post up, but more importantly are motivated to get in the garage and start building. At the end of the day...you're building it for yourself, and when you finish...You're the one who will appreciate it most! I'll be a close second. "thumbsup"

Motivating. Thx bro. I got plenty updates coming tomorrow. Btw she runs! The 53d runs!
It runs real good. Its def diff feel from my jeep but I like it..... a lot. The street feel is a whole diff driving experience.

Re: KC's commemorative build

I agree with Bulldog, it's your truck and your going to run it so who gives a fawk what anyone on this forum thinks...enjoy your rig. No need to please anyone else but you. Hurry up on the front bumper would ya.

If its any consolation I like it but not as much as your jeep! "thumbsup"

Re: KC's commemorative build

well i have lots of updates.

got all the wiring completely finished was having the same lil glitch in the steering as i had on the jeep so a simple ground from the BEC took good care of that.

inner fender wells
took a square gladware b0wl and cut in half. marked mounting point and trimmed as necessary. then scuffed the entire inside with some 150g sandpaper and sprayed about 5 light coats of plasti dip. i like using it as it dulls when it dries and is flexible so i dont chip off.

I was gonna make some styrene ones but I wanted some that were flexible and I had these on hand. Although I can't say the wife is happy about it.. lol:lmao::lmao::lmao:

Resourceful is the only way to go in this hobby."thumbsup"

Re: KC's commemorative build

as requested.. max flex.. back tire is not quite touching the ground.. im guessing about 3" high for max with the touring car shocks.

here is the shocks im using. not using the stock springs tho i opted for the tamiya spring tuning kit as the stock springs are super stiff. medium in back and hards in front. hards are still softer than the stock springs.
Tamiya (#42102) - Tamiya TRF Special Damper Set (Hard Black Coating) RC Tamiya,Kyosho,3Racing,Walkera,Esky,Align,Futaba,Model,Trex 450 500,helicopter spare upgrade part,2.4Ghz,Dragon Fly,Honey Bee King2,Hirobo,SYMA,Micro IR Plane
Tamiya 53163 On-Road Tuned Spring Set - Fluorescent Red Yellow Blue
