Keep Right

The notion that there is a 'fast lane' that gives you the right to speed is bred from stupidity. The term comes from back in the day when some people would go well under the posted limit for whatever reason. People who wanted to drive the limit would use the left lanes. Most counties around here will allow you 5-10 over but technically you are still breaking the law.

We dont really have a problem with droves of people going 5-10 under in the left lane around here, we have the opposite, people who want to run 15-20 or MORE over the limit. Not only are the breaking the law but its extremely unsafe, and no I will not move out of your way. If Im in the left lane on the interstate around here where the posted limit is 70, and Im doing 75-80 and you want to run 90+ you can go the F around.

The problem with speed limits is you give people an inch and they want to take a yard. The 'general assumed given allowance' of overage was the worst thing ever. There are places that see that folks are running 10+ over on a regular basis and so they raise the limit to make it legal. All that does is give the same people the idea that they can now run 90 in a 80 when they were running 80 in a 70.

Exactly! Speed limit is there for a reason. If I'm doing it and it's to slow for the speed racer too ****ing bad.:flipoff:

Doesn't bother me a bit to go around people that wont move over in the right lane.
The problem is the A holes in the left lane that speed up and try to box you in for no other reason then they are butt hurt because they are being passed on the right.

I hear ya. There are lots of a-holes on the road for sure. Ive run into the same people youre talking about.

Not even necessarily 'speed racers', although they are out there. I think a lot of the people I see at 6am every day are just plain late. The fact that you cant get your sh!t together is not my problem, or anyone elses on the road.

Related, I think a lot of people dont really watch their speed when theyre for example running late. They could roll up on a couple of cars doing 15-20 over the limit and that could still feel slow to them because they are in such a hurry.

Regardless, people wanting to go obsessively fast in the far left are just as bad/wrong as the ones who go obsessively slow.

if you refuse to yield to the right for faster traffic, sit on the side of the law all you want, but youre a passive aggressive asshat.

Your logic works both ways.

Someday speed racer may just decide "its too fawking bad your careening into the ditch, I guess you should have gotten out of my way."

Natural law ALWAYS supersedes the laws of man.

I am sure you have never broke a law for your personal benefit, ever.....
Good for you!

Id like to see one of put this jeep in the ditch. I dont care whats the reason, unless its a life threating emergency they can wait till I can safely move over.

I have held a CDL for close to 20 years and I have never gotten a moving violation. Although a few mph over is fine if someone comes flying up riding my ass that's another story.
Im not sayin I ride the left lane but if someone doesnt have the time to give someone a minutes to pass or need to turn left then thats their on fault for being impatient.
I have no respect for the other idiots out there flying around at mach 8 putting innocent people at risk.

Never said I ride the left lane. I follow the rules and keep right unless i need to. I get on my wifes ass about it all the time.
But what I cant stand is people that fly around like race driver putting innocent people at risk.

Speed limits 80 where I live, I usally cruise around 70 in the old jeep cause of fear its gonna time jump. But people still feel they need to go 90 plus out here. I get outta the way when I can safely do so.

And what exactly is faster traffic? Everyone else is supposed to get off the road because you want to run what exactly, a buck fifty? Did you not read anything I posted? The left lane isnt the f'n autoban.

I wouldnt move over for you any more than Id open a door for a bank robber leaving.

You want to set speed records go to the salt flats, or germany. Over here we have these little things called SPEED LIMITS on public roads.

The law of the land is the 'flow of traffic' within reasonable posted limits. If the two lanes in the middle of the far right and far left are doing a mix of 70-75 in a posted 70 and Im running 75-80 in the far left thats with the flow of trafffic. Passing people like theyre parked on the side of the road is not, nor should it be.

i aint talking going 100mph... im talking about you people feeling like you are entitled to that lane when the one to the right is clear.

sometimes, alot of times... im wanting to be going 75/80 in a 65. its lame to get stuck behind somebody whos simply being a spitefull bastard and refusing to yield because hes going the speed limit.

i much prefer a guy be aware enough and respectful enough to move the hell out of the way for faster traffic. it takes a look to the right and some very basic driving skills.

i yield all the time for other people wanting to go faster then me. i dont see the problem... id much rather give the space to be speeders in the fast lane and not be a passhole forcing speeders to weave through multiple lanes.

Think about it this way then, what about police and first responders then? If you're already in the passed lane when they approach you, not only are you closer to pulling over out of their way and they can safely get past you. If they run up behind you in the passing lane, it may take you longer to get moved over and out of their way, slowing them down for their need to respond to an emergency, if not putting a few people, including yourself, at risk.

The point is 'what is faster traffic'. If Im in the left going 5-10 over imo thats more than enough. Is it 15, 20, 30+mph over the limit? Or is it just what YOU in particular feel the pace should be. We have LIMITS for a reason. People that are already going over those limits have no reason to move out of your way because you want to go faster and faster.

The left lane does not mean you can run whatever speed you want. Do you understand that?

The problem with your logic here is that you already admit to speeding. So it's OK for you to speed at a rate YOU deem acceptable? That is some big ole hypocrisy right there.

Read previous post regarding the 'G.A.G.A', as well as the rest of the thread.

If I had my way everyone would be required by law to be on cruise control set at the posted limit on interstates and major highways.

I have read the whole thread. You talk about going over the speed limit on the first page as well as the second. I agree with you that the posted speed is a limit, a maximum. All I'm saying is that you admit to speeding (you do it twice) but YOU don't like it when people speed more than you. "They can go the F around" "and it's unsafe" right? I can multi quote you if I need to. My point is you don't get to speed AND condemn others who speed as well. You think it's ok to speed 10mph over the limit but 15 is too fast and dangerous.

Yes please quote so I can point out the 'ifs' in my posts. Technically they are hypothetical situations.

Generally I run the posted limit all the time aside from the occasional 5-10 over on the interstate. And thats the point I was trying to make about the assumed 5-10 over rule being the worst thing ever, because where does it stop. I mentioned in my first post that even if the local PDs generally allow the 5-10 over youre still breaking the law.

Like someone else mentioned, if Im already breaking the law a little but within the realm of the flow of traffic, and you want to break it way more than you can do it without my cooperation.

I think it's kore along the lines of while everybody is safely runny speed limit to 5 or 10 over vs people who sit in the passing lane running speed limit or that much under the limit, or worse yet, get two of the slower type side by side (and possibly another by side or two), that's what frustrates other motorists.
