Ken block's gymkhana four; the hollywood megamercial

I just noticed there were two different cars. One with a camera set up, one without. That better explains the additional peel out marks. Look for it in the Jaws section.

I'd bet money it's all the same car, they just put different camera rigs on it at different points in the video.

I think it was a cool video and good use of the different sets but it would make a poor car commercial. It would be like useing rbgerrish's "Hera" for a scx-10 commercial.

Wow that was freaking awesome he pulled off some sweet moves.. Yeah it's Hollywood but he still drove it like he stole it.. Man I bet there's 150k in that car... But wouldn't It be sick to pull up at a redlight next to say a stang and bust that arse in a fiesta or whatever it is

However, I think Block should probably practice more for WRC and Rallycross instead of these, going by the X-Games it shows that he cracks under pressure...and in WRC he'll smash into anything.

Usually its still engine or suspension failure killing his WRC races. Though when he crashes he goes big!

Also wondering how many takes it took to make it this time?

Many shots are one take shots, then again many others are not.

Watched it, never going to be as impressed as the first time I saw #1. I think this one was cheesy on purpose though.

I agree, #1 was raw from the driving to the sound.

I think Ken Block knows exactly what he is doing. He is a marketing genius, that likes to have some fun entering rally races. Unlike most race drivers he doesn't have to do well at all to earn his paycheck.

Also unlike Loeb, Ken Block has created the MWRT instead of just signing up with an existing Rally team with huge budgets.

I'd love to have just his tire budget!

Those are free...Pirelli gets stickers on car and donates tires. All about marketing to give him free tires, not just for Gymkhana.

GoPro posted pictures of the camera settle yesterday on Facebook, specifically the rigs for those cool panning shots. They had a line of probably 30 GoPro's that were on a big suction cup mounting system held from the car.

I did mean the same car, used more than once. With camera gear, and without.

Honestly, that changes my perspective just a tiny bit about the extra amount of rubber on the ground as he goes around the same thing more than once. But they should have flipped the shots around so the outside shots don't have tracks on the ground already. Maybe they tried, but that didn't always work out.

Also, maybe if Sebastian Loeb sold shoes and flat bills he'd be worth a bit more, but he seems to concentrate on winning races instead. But I also would gather not too many brotatoes know who Seb is. Maybe if Jimmy Johnson sold shoes and hats...

Yea those gopro array shots are may favorite. They are using them more and more. Hell, they use them a bunch in the swamp people intro.

The other problem with Seb is he is french, personally I don't like the french, even if I respect him as a driver.

Yawnnnnnnnnn

Pretty much like Top Gear, entertaining the first few times, but you can only watch the same thing down the same way a few times before it gets boring.

Ken Block has a net worth over $200,000,000

Sebastien Loeb the best rally car driver in the world has a net worth of $45,000,000

I think Ken Block knows exactly what he is doing. He is a marketing genius, that likes to have some fun entering rally races. Unlike most race drivers he doesn't have to do well at all to earn his paycheck.

It is well know that this isn't one seamless take. He makes people aware that he films each line as many times as it takes to get the perfect shot, then they put them all together in the studio.

IMO it's extremely arrogant and worthless basing a persons success purely on monetary wealth.

Not really a Loeb fan boy, as his participation in WRC together with the meddling of David Richards have pretty much ruined WRC IMO.

Loeb because he is THAT much better than anyone else racing he's made it more or less a Loeb procession the last 7 years, and Richards because he has tried to turn rallying from a spectator sport to a TV show.

That being said Loeb was a successful Gymnast before trying rallying.
He first rallied in WRC in 2002 and took his first victory in the same year.

He took his first championship in 2004 and has not lost the championship since.
This in a sport that has many many top drivers as Block has seen (not too shabby himself compared to most others, but not even competitive in WRC).

Loeb has also won the Champion of Champions (a race where top drivers compete against other top drivers) 3 times.
He and his team also finished 2nd in the Le Man 24 hour race in 06.

By all accounts he's not too shabby in a F1 car, in which it's alleged in some tests he would have qualified 8th on the grid.

He's also married with lovely daughter.

So sure Block may well have a higher "net worth", no doubt as a result of his clothing business rather than his driving skills, but i don't think you could find one person with any blood in their veins that'd disagree Loeb has been more successful.

There is more then one way to designate success.

Loeb is a driver first and foremost.

Block is a promotor then a driver.

Comparing the 2 is like comparing a business man, well to a race car driver.

but i don't think you could find one person with any blood in their veins that'd disagree Loeb has been more successful.

I am pretty sure you could find PLENTY of people that would say it. Me being one of them.

Yup Loeb is better at driving a car. Most are not going to argue that. However I think Block is still a more sucessful person, based on his business sense, marketing skills AND ability to drive a car.

I agree with Harley.

Loeb is a successful driver.

Block is a successful businessman, driver, team owner.

3 > 1

It's pretty much BS any ways, pretty much 90% of the population would happily give their left testicle to be half as successful as either.

It just annoys me when folks count a persons success purely on their financial wealth.
It does tend to be the American way in my experience though.

It'd be interesting to ask Block (if it were possible), how much of that net worth he'd give in exchange for some of Loeb's driving skills.

It's also be interesting to ask Loeb (again if it were possible) if he'd swap any of his immense driving skills for a higher net worth.

As i don't know either person it's 100% speculation, but my guess is:
Block = Yes
Loeb = No

Good marketing but otherwise......

I feel the same, #1 was the best because i was so amazed, and i also think he should ditch the dumb ford and go back to the subaru:flipoff:.
