Kyosho blizzard df300

OK strip down for bearings!

I love these little snow machines! I also found a new in box DF300 right after I bought the newer SR version. After running the vintage DF, I converted the SR (dual 380 motors) to a single 540 motor/drivetrain setup. Castle 5700kV brushless on 3S. It's a blast to rip through the powder .

Be sure to check out RCSnowcats if you haven't already, great bunch of guys.

I'm snapon boy on rc snowcats also! It needs a few more members it is a very good group of people who have amazing skills. I have An ev that is brushless now and the one in the build is for my son I'm thinking 30t Holmes hobbies motor. Yours is moving in the picture! I'd like to see a picture or 2 of the insides of the Sr conversion.

OK today I'm making brake pads out of avid x-ray indos to replace the stainless steel disc supplied by kyosho. This upgrade give you smooth stopping and very fluid turns and greatly reduces the on and off jerkiness the stainless steel disc cause.

The team blue groove body showed up!
I had a hard time with the vintage decals I think they may have gotten to hot. Next I'll be adding an interior and lots of scale accessories.

Trail dog;

How well has your df or Sr blizzard held up to 3s power? I'm using 7.2 now but seriously thinking of going to 3s. Do you run hard case or soft packs? How much run time do you get?

Thanks

Hey my man, I have a couple of these (we spoke in the past) and I run brushless systems in both. I float between 2s & 3s. It is night/day difference...3s shoots 4' rooster tails and keeps the front incredibly light, even with 5000 lipo . 8) Run times will vary with your throttle finger like always but I get over 35 min on 5000 and 15-20 on 2200. I found mine to be very durable as long as you run in several inches of snow. When you get down to "terra firma" bad things can happen because of all the traction.

If you decide to use 3s use a bec for the servo, just like in crawling the voltage from 3s packs plays havoc on servos. "thumbsup"

I have a video or two over on RCSnowcats if you want to see 3s power.

What gdb85 said "thumbsup". If I'm not mistaken, I believe the diff is the same one they used in their 1/8th scale nitro vehicles. It should hold up well. I've heard that the chain will stretch over time with big power but I don't run mine that much, so it hasn't been an issue.

I run 40C 5000 hard case packs mounted in the rear of the SR with a modified DF300 top plate. Except for that, it looks very much like a stock DF.

OK cool thanks for the advice. I better stick with 2s. We don't get much snow. Gdb85,ill look for your videos. I frequent rc snowcats a few times a week. I want to thank you for offering to help me a few months back. Yes the blizzards share parts with the inferno if I'm not mistaken.

I've always wanted one! Ever since I saw a guy on YouTube ripping a brushless one through a couple feet of snow. I'll definitely be interested in this build. Awesome score!

I have 3-4 blizzards... including a vintage DX.

Use O rings on the outside of the diff, you will see the recesses for them. fill with 100+k fluid.

I've run everything from titan 12t/2s to 4.5hv on 3s.

Gears hold up fine, keep an extra diff case on hand. They melt with 3s power. The rear trailing arms break. The front sprocket/drive wheel will break too.
Most parts 'outside' the tub are readily available, they are the same as the sr. kyosho still makes the other parts, but they are getting hard to find.

Do not jump them.

Sand will melt everything in the driveline. It's fun, but be prepared to spend $$ after a day at the beach.

32p, fits and is a similar size to stock

I haven't found one yet but one of the rc snowcats guys said you can buy a metal diff cover.

Yes, I have 2 of them... Along with the hardened diff gears.

They also made a ball diff that would fit, I haven't tried that yet.

No, they are not for sale:flipoff:

I got some of the harded diff gears in my extra parts. Have you ran the metal diff cover yet? Is it a necessary item. I've ran my blizzard for 2 years on the stock one.

I'll get back to the interior soon, I got side tracked by a large box of free komacel and began another build of a thikol sprite.

Just a quick update I got 2 hardened diff cases to go in my blizzards part number fzw25. My local hobby store had them!

I do seem to have caught some sort of bug.. I don't like the way they power the plow up and down on the newer ones.. I wonder about rigging a winch servo to a little hydraulic pump... I have small lego pistons. They are for air but I would assume they would hold up fairly well with fluid instead

There are a few people who have made different attempts and mods for the plow. You can mod one on the eve and df also! Power wise and performance wise I like the ev and df the best! The Sr is good to go with the sabortooth mod!

Quick update I got a box from Holmes Hobbies it's a torque master 55t motor. I installed it and tested it, it lives up to its name! I've got the material ordered to put a set of Nikes on the tracks for all purpose driving.
