Kyosho fo-xx VE review?

I just read an article about it in RC Car Action and they brag it up a little bit, but by looking at the pictures, it's junk. The steering setup alone is reason enough not to buy it in my opinion. Not to mention the chain drive they must of had left over from the 80's. Honestly I think Kyosho belongs on the shelves at Wally world. Kyosho and the word performance only go together when the word poor is used.

you should wait for a review from someone who owns one of these ....while there is usually room for upgrade on any new rc vehicle out of the box .....I seriously doubt that fo xx are junk .... have you tried finding a review on youtube ... you would be better off finding a review on youtube than taking my word for its quality or thinking that if I read an article and look at a picture that I could make an accurate review.
just my opinion you should wait for a good review that you asked for ,,,,,75 % of rc quality is what you make them...I have read a few articles on the foxx and not 1 claimed to be the be all end all of the rc world ...that dosent mean that they are junk or you can look at a picture and review the performance of any vehicle that is what running videos are for.

If stock steering on something as simple as these is enough to push you away, then you are on the wrong forum.

Kyosho is a boutique brand, IMO, that has a great following. The axles are probably as strong as anything out of the box, and the chain drive is simple and effective.

I would not call it a crawler, but it looks like it is fun. MY issue would be parts when it breaks as Kyosho is not carried everywhere like a company like Losi or Traxxas.

Part of the availability will depend on where you are too, I know I have seen kyosho parts locally, but for what, I am not sure. Otherwise, I mean the fo-xx looks sweet, but when you break it, you may have to wait a week or 2 to get parts in. I would say, if you like it, get it.

Sometimes a picture says it all. Five rods, ten ball ends and three bellcranks! 2 link suspension on top of that. I understand all about modifying something. Everything can be better, no matter how good it is out of the box, but when you see such poor engineering on something in this price range it's a big red flag. This thing is not even close to being worth 520 bucks!
First and foremost it needs to have some kind of potential to make the mods worth the time and money.
Chain drive is simple and effective. So is using a brick to open the window.:flipoff:

We understand you have an opinion, I would buy the truck, almost just for the fact its an rtr formula offroad truck. Just because it has no purpose to you, means absolutely nothing to the next person. As far as it 'not having potential' its got everything needed to hillclimb, or beach crash, or possibly give yetis a race. Chain drive is effective and simple, hence the reason it has been used on bicycles and motorcycles for over a hundred years. The fact that it has barely any effective power loss, while in good maintenance, means that you are receiving an efficient driveline.

Bricks are good at cracking open faces too, does it mean it is the best option for everyone? No, but it works for someone.

Kyosho stuff is built pretty tough IMO but there's not too much for aftermarket stuff for them. I've broke the suspension links more then I can count. Although the steering isn't the best its not too bad when it's all tight and moving like its meant to. The kyosho twin force-mad kruiser-foxx are all meant to be geared towards monster truck styled rigs. People have to be buying these things since they probably have the longest production run of all time.

it is better to wait for first hand knowledge if you want an honest review..
I would be not accept any OPINION that based the review on looking at a picture then flips you off at the end of their biased review as if their word is law ....

the review you need should have honest unbiased information and less trolling.....
if you tried to drive a picture of a FO XX up a hill you would be angry too.

This is why I made this post. You guys are giving me good info but I wanted someone who had it to give me there opinion.

you may want to look in a different section of the site, I know someone posted a review of the vehicle.

I have a Mad Force VE and its basically the same thing. For what it is it does the job well. If the steering thing is a concern, there are aftermarket stuff you can buy to really simplify it in my opinion.

If everyone is wondering about the steering setup, I traced a user's picture a while back because I was a tad confused myself.

IMO, the truck is still pretty badass looking, it's just a lot to drop on a solid axle basher style rig when there isn't much out there about the durability and performance.

First of all, that post was not aimed at Mikael. Hence the quote. I apologize if that's how that came across. Secondly, I said in my opinion. Guess you missed that part? My word is not nor will ever be law. I was pointing out that the steering set up with that many parts is IMO a joke and that the chain drive is something Kyosho has used here and there through the last 20+ years. And @ 520 bucks it's over priced. Thank Gawd I didn't say anything about Axial! Y'all would probably have me out in the front yard stomping a mud hole in my @@S...

ok, so this is essentially a Mad Force with a new body and rubber. come on over the Mad Force section and look at the threads about it.

its nothing new really. the truck has been around for over a decade. i even make scaler axles out of them. they are bullet proof as a scaler axle. high speed you will see breakages in the plastic parts, but replacements are $10. so buy a few. run it hard. it takes make 5 minutes to replace the C-hubs when they break.

my opinion. get one. run it hard. fix it when it breaks. you'll love it.

I have one and love it.. I sold 2 Yeti's to buy one and could not be happier to get rid of those money pits.. Sorry for bringing up an old thread..

This truck is the same as the force trucks.

The steering is complicated but honestly works well. I done away with it and made a servo mount that mounted to the trailing arm way back when the twin force first came out.

The chain drive transmission is almost bullet proof.

The 2 link setup doesn't look as cool as 4 link but for bashing it works great and way less parts to break.

In my opinion these trucks are the best off the shelf truck you can buy. They take a beating and keep going.
