Kyosho Rock Force 2.2

I was very skeptical about this rig when I first saw it, and to be honest, I thought it was the ugliest thing I had ever seen...but it has grown on me quite a bit.

My skepticism went bye bye when I saw that it was worm drive, and then I found this RC Car Action/RC NET vid a couple weeks ago:

Looks pretty impressive, but the Kyosho price point will be a hard pill to swallow.

The worm gear design is brilliant that drag brake is not needed. I wonder how major of a modification is needed to make it work on a AX10.

By the way, I'm new to the forum.

Uuhm the kyoscho worm dirives are in the axles, replacing the ax-10 axles you wont have a ax-10 anymore but a ax-10 chasiis with kyoscho axles;-)

Welcome to the forum"thumbsup"

Welcome...

The axle housings themselves are an integral part of the worm gear set up. If you watch the vid that I linked, you'll see the internal shot, and you'll be able to tell that in no way can you swap guts to the Scorpion housings.

Honestly though, why would you want to? The thing is pretty slick, and I'm guessing that if Kyosho make the axles available seperately, we'll be looking at something close to, or a bit higher than the Bergs as far as cost, so you'd probably be better off just buying the entire rig.

I think he meant swapping the entire axles. I would like to see one in person but anything new and unique is cool."thumbsup"

Looks like the Rock Force will be around $500/$550

This vid was in the link bar on You Tube...it looks very promising even with those stock Kyosho Cheveron treads. It peaks my interest more and more every time I look at it. I just looks dialed.

My only concern as with any other Kyosho product is parts availability...
since they severed their distro partnership with Great Planes a while back, it seems like obtaining components can be a hassle.

Found this also: http://www.genkidoridori.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=878

It appears to be a kit, so that price tag is sans Radio, Speedo, Motor and ESC! We're approaching Super coin here.

I know plenty of people with over 1000 in to a 2.2 comp crawler:lol:

Absolutely...I do as well. I'm just thinking that it would be cool to see a new player on the 2.2 market that could be priced closer to the Scorpion, so some folks could try something different without breaking the bank.

Either way, this is still a very cool rig.

that's pretty cool... i dig the 3-link with the panhard/track bar setup... but i agree on the price and parts availability... but this is similar to the bergs where people were waiting for spare parts...

I know it's the wrong brand but does anyone but me think this needs Wild Willy as the driver? Any way I think I might have found my next crawler or at least my next set of axles.

It looks very promising. Only time will tell if it will perform good. The only thing I can see that I don't like about it is the bulkiness of the chassis. I'm sure an lighter weight aftermarket one will be available though. Also the good thing about worm gears, is that you don't need to lock the rear when using a dig ;-). Just disconnect it. THAT'S AWESOME!

Look at the price tag as a good thing. Think about those that have purchased TLT axles or even AX-10 axles only to drop another $100 or more into them just to have them last over a small amount of time for comp abuse. By the time you upgrade TLT and AX-10 axles, you could have the Kyosho axles and they offer beef.

The chassis is just two plates and some plastic cross bars. There's no transmisson, unless you call a pinion and spur gear a transmission. I bet the Kyosho chassis with "transmission" weighs less than a AX-10 chassis with it's transmission. Food for thought.

I am excited to see Kyosho release this. I just have hopes that parts will be easier to get if needed. But if the axles(from hex to hex) are tough enough the aftermarket will be just enough.

Sorry if this was already posted, but it appears that the body on this truck is less than 5". If this is the case, another body would be needed to compete with the truck. Am I correct on this?
