Yesterday we covered a crash at the Unlimited 500+ drag race in Moscow, featuring a Nissan GT-R, but today brings better news: a Lamborghini Gallardo making 2,005 horsepower successfully went 250 miles per hour on the one-mile strip in 23.9 seconds without crashing. That's the good part. The bad part is the single-serving supercar burst into flames immediately after it crossed the finish line. Fortunately the driver was able to quickly bring the Lamborghini to a stop and get out of the car, but we have a feeling it will need some engine work before it sees any more action. That and perhaps a new paint job.

Underground Racing tuned the Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggera's V10 to such an astronomical power output with the help of what sounds like twin-turbochargers (which is typical of UR builds). But despite the very impressive mile time, it's still hard not to feel sorry for the poor engine, which just couldn't take the pressure. Watch the 2,005-hp Gallardo reach 250 mph - then catch fire

Yay!

Let's hear it for Russian mob money...

What ever happened to the good old days where a redneck would strap a JATO rocket to a old Furd?

I wonder if it was cause by a backfire when he let off crossing line?

I also wonder if the dampers or shocks are stock?

And how big are the turbos. And at what psi.

tonight on Mythbusters...

judging by UR's lack of info about it on the web, secrecy blankets in the vid, and backing up into the trees to block view, i doubt they are going to tell us those specs:cry:

The lack or torque in that thing almost dieing trying to move forward. Imagine if it would make it more than a mile without exploding. Tell me again how much better turbos are over a good supercharger.

gee all that money added to what that car costs and they couldn't even contain the power for longer then 23 seconds   :lmao: ....

It was originally a UR built car... However those guys keep finding ways of ripping into the system and sending it to places like Altechno to "turn up the boost." They love to go fast and even more to be rough on stuff. They turn back to UR to build more motors or trans and do the same thing again. But hey what do I know lol..

He wanted to go Fast and He went, served it's purpose. Great thing about these Russians is that no matter how They've got Their money They're not afraid to use it how ever stupid or tasteless it may seem...

the only thing a turbo has over a supercharger is its pretty much free hp..a supercharger take hp to drive it..it comes back in spades though and its good to go without having to spool up first

250 mph without a cage?

A race spec cage is an option. Some of the track guys are running them..

Excessive fuel dump/backfire + oil or gas leak..

Aftermarket suspension (cant remember brand off the top of my head)

Precisions ranging 67-76mm around 1-1.5+ bar of boost. (could be a different setup now)

"thumbsup"

Lets see...Take a several hundred thousand dollar car, spend several more hundred thousand on it to make it "faster" only to have it destroyed. All the while, going SLOWER than people driving cheaper cars on dirt or salt. Yeah that's awesome!:lmao:

That was surely an oil and coolant mixture on the hood/bumper at the end. It'd be interesting to know what actually happend to the engine.

Stock top speed of a Veyron for about half the price, half the wieght, and double the HP. Ehh...

You guys are both missing the point that they did it in 1 mile. Yes they can go faster, and other Lambo's just like this have gone faster but the point was the mile trap speed and time.
