i kinda knew about this months ago...but wasnt 100% sure what was coming. this is somehting i have wanted for a long time! As a proud Member of RC4WD i was one of a handful to get one. As always im late to the party!!! got it tuesday...something evey night this week has keep me from getting my hands on it...And had to work at hobby store today..

i did manage with what little time i had to tear into it last night,About 10:00 spent about 2 hours with it...other than some pictures i took wensday night before having to leave.

i did a FJ40 years ago with a tamiya lexan body. it was great at the time.
that was 2008.

now its Saturday night...had to work today...was late...had started this thread this morning...and didnt get done till now...im hungrgy!!! going to eat supper now!!! will do build part shortley...

had a nice chicken sandwich with pickles...man was it good!
no on to building this...tiny truck...what my good friend at GCM calls them..

im not going deep into chassis build, the Gelande 2 has been around for while now... chassis is the same as far as i can tell...they did make new holes for the body mounts...i wonder why they didnt make it with leaf springs as the real 1;1 has them...but on too the chassis
IMG_0894.jpg
i didnt have any major issues with the chassis...i did get confused as to where panhard braket went...frame had 3 holes and instruction book showed only 2...
IMG_0889.jpg
trans was taken apart and more grease was added...one thing i'm not crazy about is 32 pitch gears...there nosiey...IMO...i will chnage this out for a 48 pitch spur gear
IMG_0888.jpg
only other thing i notice was center drive shaft...when i tighten the screw pins, the shaft had a BIND in it when rotated.. i decided to add thread lock to them and not tighten them down real hard.... i just screwed them in till it had the bind then lossen till it was gone not much...thread lock will hold them in.
IMG_0890.jpg
the big diffrence on the chassis is the bumpers! real scale to the cruiser body.
we had some talk between us team mates as too the screw in the rear bumper no being long enough...its holds but i may put a longer one in later..
IMG_0891.jpg
front bumper is great! looks real scale to me...even comes with TOW hooks.
IMG_0892.jpg
front
he have the chassis together..
IMG_0896.jpg
now to try this beautful body on it
IMG_0897.jpg
this is where i am now...loots to still do.
IMG_0898.jpg
my team mates have been going back and forth as to there colors...what they dont have is paint codes... i do and mine is going to be....drum roll please....
IMG_0880.jpg
im going with Suntan Yellow....why YOU ask...???? because when you work at a large toyota dealer and the owner loves FJs and he HAS friends that have FJs.....you get to work on a REAL FJ!
IMG_0517.jpg
YES SUNTAN YELLOW IS my color of choice...!!
IMG_0514.jpg
i am going to make a brush guard to match this one
IMG_0516.jpg
will also make a spare holder also..
IMG_0522.jpg
IMG_0525.jpg
wheels will be white gmade ones with BFGs...was going to buy them from hobby store today....some person bought them...so ill have to wait till they come back in on stock order...i will also have HUB caps! to match these
IMG_0515.jpg
thats all i got for now...hope to get some paint on it during the week and go over all the cool details the body has!!!!!

Great color choice and lucky you with all that inspiration around you every day. I've seen 1 FJ in the flesh in the last decade here in the UK.

Looking good Andy...

So you are taking the Boss's Choice of Yellow... Hmmmm

Let's go take some day quill and get this sucker done...
