"Like" Button

I know it hasn't been that long sense the forums 'Like' function went by way of the dodo, but who else still looks in the upper right had corner of their screen when they first bring up RCC?

I looked before, during, and still do after. Checking for a PM for me is like hitting the gold mine for me. Either somebody liked my idea enough to reply, or I sold/ bought something.

Natedog, if you're out there, this isn't meant to be a rap on you, but I see you miss the Like button as I do, as you've been over on RCShortcourse liking threads over there "thumbsup":lmao:

Every single day I come on. Now I feel something is missing...no notifications

If anyone cares to make a positive change to the forums format by removing anything.....
Remove the post counts under users names.
Just completely do away with them.

If anything on a forum serves ZERO purpose, it’s a users post counts.
The number does nothing but give food for turmoil and segregation.
Positively the root of the never ending age old “newbie” insult issues.
Newbs seemingly are under the gun and forced to “prove themselves”, members with high post counts in general tend to feel like they can bully people and or “know-it-all” simply because their post count is higher then most.
Granted there’s an exception to everything, but in general, both negative situations exist along with many other negative attributes from “post counts”.

The only thing a post count is even remotely good for is an access tool to the classifieds in means to hopefully better protect the member base here from getting scammed, ripped off, or just general spam posting access.
Honestly, the classifieds should be one of a few options for access in means to protect members best possible .... possibly one of the following.
Either.....
A three or six month minimum time after joining forum grants access.
Or...
Some sort of affirmation of person/member. Ie: credit/bebit card affirmation by member giving card info and a $1 charge is made to card and refunded back within 24 hours time. Not sure the logistics of this option, but it would be my personal choice for classifieds access with no other requirements.
No time wait, no post minimum, no yearly fees...
Not that it’s going to be a perfect fix, but firmly believe it would stop 99% of the usual issues with intentional scams and rip off by people hiding behind screen names or fake names.

Ultimately scrapping post counts would also eliminate much of not all the nonsense posting in tech threads by members just looking to pad their count numbers for one reason or another.

Facebook and other forums spend millions upon millions in beta testing and research to have figured out the “LIKE” system and it’s NO mistake they have it or people WANT it. I personally go on record that removing it from here is detrimental, temporary or permanent.

Either way.... change anything...?
My vote would be to completely remove post counts, they serve zero positive purpose.
If nothing else, it would surely increase posts and new threads by new members afraid to be marked and ridiculed due to their low post counts.
At least 50% or more of the personal messages I’ve received over the years from new members looking for advice or help has been wanting help with being attacked or insulted for being a “newb”

Whatever noob.

:lmao:

I will agree that post counts are fully worthless, some of the most vapid idiotards on forums have giant post counts which proves nothing of knowledge or ability.

The like button is merely suspended so all those precious likes are still there so if & when it's reinstated all that hard earned self worth will be there just as it was. I'm sure Nate dog will fill everyone's notification box with liked for every post soon enough.

Like button is for snowflakes. People who need their egos stroked. Like said above some people log on and first thing they look for is how many more likes they have received since there last visit. If there is a like button there should also be a dislike or stupid button also. Unless most of the OG members come back and and post some new killer builds, custom fabrication and mods instead of just bolting on new shiny parts. This place will continue to die a slow death.

Post count can go. Never made sense to me why it mattered.

I still think a 30 day wait should still be in affect for the classifieds section. Just in hopes it would keep people here instead of using just the classifieds section.

I get that today's society has turned the word "validation" into a pretty ridiculous sentiment but I'll be the first to admit that I don't care if the 'like' is viewed by some as being just that. Even if it is validation for some, that's not necessarily a "pat on the head" kinda thing. I've never cared much what people say or think of me and I'm getting pretty damned old these days. But in a COMMUNITY such as this, it IS cool to feel as if the work that you do and the passion that you feel is being appreciated, reciprocated... whatever.

It seems that there's a lot of new blood in the hobby these days, and that's what will help to save forum participation... just the way that the older guys are saving it by giving a "thumb's up" or a "yes proceed" or a "good choice!". That's the validation that tells us new kids that we're making some good decisions or that we're on the right track. The 'like' feature absolutely doesn't hinder participation, value, nor membership of a forum... certainly not this kind of forum anyway. And if a forum is going to survive these days, it needs to adapt to the ones that are still learning, still enthusiastic, still needing some guidance along the way.

Whether we're building, bolting on, upgrading, modifying, fabricating, etc... there should be room on here for all of us. I understand the opposition but the old days are gone. I still hope that I'll get validation in some form by the still-active seasoned members... cause as long as I'm enjoying crawling and tinkering and learning about tiny trucks... I'll take all the validation I can get. Not a damn one of us that hasn't felt that blank stare coming from our wives, girlfriends, etc... when trying to emphasize the importance of scale hardware, multiple tire & wheel combinations, or a period correct decal from overseas for a mere $50. I want someone out there to "tell" me I'm not crazy! God knows I don't think my wife is gonna vouch for me at this point!

Post count... who cares?

Say what you want but I like likes. It’s a quick and easy way to show appreciation for something and if it’s something that I want to comment on, I do. I still look for the like button out of habit. Bring back the likes.

Ok, you get the "stupid button"

So ummmm yeah, I miss the the like button, didn't think I would, didn't really think I cared but well there have been so many times since it's been gone that I've went to use it and it's gone. Oh well, it is what is. Maybe we should have a vote down the road about bringing it back or not. I could care less about how many posts someone has as far as that goes, that can go in my opinion.
