"Like" Button

IMO like button or no like button post count removed or left alone. We'll never see Rccrawler.com back to it's glory days.
The demise of the fourm wasn't caused by the like button.
I have my opinion what started the slow down of long time members from posting on the forum but isn't worth sharing.
just leave the site asis.
Just my 2cents

It's your research done yet? The like button is a good thing. Call me a snowflake or whatever. It's more of a tool then anything else to most of us. Picture threads with no talking and no like button kinda sucks. Post counts are only good to know (in a way) who you're dealing with. Anyone calling another a noob is just childish b/s that needs to stop either way. I call myself a noob and that's fine. Any of y'all can call me a noob. IDK I am a noob in my eyes. I've only been into RC for one year, but in this stupid PC world we live in now. You might hurt someone's feelings. Booohooo! So just quit before someone calls their Mommy on you. I love this forum! I don't ever want to see it go away! I'm here to help the mods and anyone else just to see this forum survive. I will be editing all my videos description with links to this forum and my build threads. Hopefully some of my 11 subscribers will come on over and check out the forum. Have a great day everyone!"thumbsup"

BRING BACK THE LIKE BUTTON!!!

BRING BACK THE LIKE BUTTON!!!

As of now the like feature will not be returning, I spoke with Badger last night for nearly an hour. He will be able to show me the data shortly, and I am also working with him to straighten out my admin access as I cannot log into it fully. Once I have that access I will also be appointing new moderators as well.

Thanks
Mike

Guess we’ll be seeing a lot more of this. (Not throwing shade at anyone quoted, victims of circumstance)

Next year it will be us Like-refugees wishing for the glory days.

Dang it.I actually looked for the like button after reading this!

Agreed.
Not necessarily about forums, yes many print magazines are dead/dying and a lot of that is because they were/are very biased towards every paid advertiser, not worthy of my money.

Yes! Some other sites I'm member of have top10 trending threads on the right side, pretty useful and useful when you're bored and looking for something interesting to read.

Agreed and always appreciated and still do your honesty, generally fair minded moderation and posts.

You're welcome.

Owning a website requires paying yearly/monthy hosting fees, building it, setting up IP address etc...the rest of the stuff appears to have been absent for a loooong time, such as actively monitoring it, granting proper permissions to admins (not all admins are equal rights to the site settings), getting and keeping good mods who enjoy the hobby and are stable/level-headed and calm (ie fair-handed), promoting it, recruiting paid advertisers, give-aways etc.

Agreed.

Yes! I like this. :)

I guess us Like-fugees are just going to have to create a web browser extension that puts the like button back :flipoff:

Good morning Mike.

First of all, thanks for taking on the job of trying to give our great site a little boost."thumbsup"
But, as I stated in here earlier, I use the like button to judge attention to my builds and up grades. I think I probably post build threads as much or more than most on here and the like button gives me some insight to if what I do is being looked at. I design my threads to cater to the new guys on here and try to show how I get from point A to B and so most of the older guys find them a little boring IMO. So for me I think doing away with the button is a mistake. I guess you can just take my opinion for what is worth in making this decision. Thanks for listening!

Liked!!!!

Your builds are never boring! Inspirational is the word I would use for your build threads"thumbsup"

Don't know why it took me so long to realize... it's not about the community b/c this does nothing to actually benefit the community. It will likely add posts and adding post counts looks good on paper... for the owners sake. Disabling this feature has likely increased posts now... not valuable content... just watering down and cluttering up threads. But if at the end of the day it means more posts, then it's a win for ownership. Next up I'm assuming will be infractions for simply posting 'like'. Oh well... it was a very motivational and beneficial tool while it lasted.

Where is the stupid button?
You can already see how many views your build thread has and reply’s. And if some one likes it enough they should take the time to comment even if it is something as short as “build looks great keep the progress and pics coming”.
I believe some actual words of encouragement and suggestions wether good or bad go a lot further than a push of a button.

That is exactly what I've been saying the whole damned time. I guess we are both relics of days gone by for thinking that actual interaction is not as good as the easy button.

As per my last diatribe on the subject, I LIKED the LIKE button. If you saw something that was interesting or you LIKED the way someone handled a particular issue, and really did not have anything to add, then LIKE. if you REALLY LIKED something, you could LIKE it and also comment on it / add to the thread. Frankly, I don't see eliminating the LIKE button increasing traffic - unless of course you take in to account the recent rash of posts where people simply typed "LIKE". :lmao:

I'll continue to post and participate here regardless. The above is just my .02 pesos on the subject. "thumbsup" I absolutely loathe FB, so this is my outlet for ALL things RC.

Natedog, if you're out there, this isn't meant to be a rap on you, but I see you miss the Like button as I do, as you've been over on RCShortcourse liking threads over there "thumbsup":lmao:

I get that today's society has turned the word "validation" into a pretty ridiculous sentiment but I'll be the first to admit that I don't care if the 'like' is viewed by some as being just that. Even if it is validation for some, that's not necessarily a "pat on the head" kinda thing. I've never cared much what people say or think of me and I'm getting pretty damned old these days. But in a COMMUNITY such as this, it IS cool to feel as if the work that you do and the passion that you feel is being appreciated, reciprocated... whatever.

It seems that there's a lot of new blood in the hobby these days, and that's what will help to save forum participation... just the way that the older guys are saving it by giving a "thumb's up" or a "yes proceed" or a "good choice!". That's the validation that tells us new kids that we're making some good decisions or that we're on the right track. The 'like' feature absolutely doesn't hinder participation, value, nor membership of a forum... certainly not this kind of forum anyway. And if a forum is going to survive these days, it needs to adapt to the ones that are still learning, still enthusiastic, still needing some guidance along the way.

Whether we're building, bolting on, upgrading, modifying, fabricating, etc... there should be room on here for all of us. I understand the opposition but the old days are gone. I still hope that I'll get validation in some form by the still-active seasoned members... cause as long as I'm enjoying crawling and tinkering and learning about tiny trucks... I'll take all the validation I can get. Not a damn one of us that hasn't felt that blank stare coming from our wives, girlfriends, etc... when trying to emphasize the importance of scale hardware, multiple tire & wheel combinations, or a period correct decal from overseas for a mere $50. I want someone out there to "tell" me I'm not crazy! God knows I don't think my wife is gonna vouch for me at this point!

Post count... who cares?

So ummmm yeah, I miss the the like button, didn't think I would, didn't really think I cared but well there have been so many times since it's been gone that I've went to use it and it's gone. Oh well, it is what is. Maybe we should have a vote down the road about bringing it back or not. I could care less about how many posts someone has as far as that goes, that can go in my opinion.

Like. You're a likable and helpful positive guy!

Edit: if anything should go away, there's the jealous haters down-rating peeps threads just because they have nothing positive or helpful to input.

Oh yeah, post count meh much less meaningful.

"LIKE" THIS and ALL of the posts like it. Something IS missing from this forum now, and that sux.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the why part? As a forum owner, I would think the first order of business would be more members. With more members, you get more venders looking to sell and more money coming in. Rather than make changes that give users a "POLL" feature or something they take away one that clearly more of us like than dislike.

I just dont understand the business side of this decision at all.

I would have upgraded the forum to something current, and maybe clean up some of the threads. Micro threads are all over the place. The WPL threads should really be in a toy grade section or something IMO. So many other little changes that would make the forum easier to navigate.

If they are making changes to better the business side, I completely fail to see how this one feature has anything to do with generating more members. Rather its pissing the ones they have off.

Its like being on a run down playground at the park. Yet the city wants more people to go to that park and play there, so they take away the monkey bars.....lol

That said, I have no dog in this fight. I find myself posting here again for no reason other than there is nothing else going on.

I do agree that the WPLs should be in another section, they should be in the General scale section. I also agree that out of the box they are very much toy grade but once they are modded with hobby grade parts and perform well, they are no longer toy grade. Both of my little Yotas perform way above my expectations and I am very happy with them. I have less than a $130 in each and they are a lot of fun and deserve to be somewhere on the forum. But yeah the micro forum got cluttered up with them.
