I get that today's society has turned the word "validation" into a pretty ridiculous sentiment but I'll be the first to admit that I don't care if the 'like' is viewed by some as being just that. Even if it is validation for some, that's not necessarily a "pat on the head" kinda thing. I've never cared much what people say or think of me and I'm getting pretty damned old these days. But in a COMMUNITY such as this, it IS cool to feel as if the work that you do and the passion that you feel is being appreciated, reciprocated... whatever.
It seems that there's a lot of new blood in the hobby these days, and that's what will help to save forum participation... just the way that the older guys are saving it by giving a "thumb's up" or a "yes proceed" or a "good choice!". That's the validation that tells us new kids that we're making some good decisions or that we're on the right track. The 'like' feature absolutely doesn't hinder participation, value, nor membership of a forum... certainly not this kind of forum anyway. And if a forum is going to survive these days, it needs to adapt to the ones that are still learning, still enthusiastic, still needing some guidance along the way.
Whether we're building, bolting on, upgrading, modifying, fabricating, etc... there should be room on here for all of us. I understand the opposition but the old days are gone. I still hope that I'll get validation in some form by the still-active seasoned members... cause as long as I'm enjoying crawling and tinkering and learning about tiny trucks... I'll take all the validation I can get. Not a damn one of us that hasn't felt that blank stare coming from our wives, girlfriends, etc... when trying to emphasize the importance of scale hardware, multiple tire & wheel combinations, or a period correct decal from overseas for a mere $50. I want someone out there to "tell" me I'm not crazy! God knows I don't think my wife is gonna vouch for me at this point!
Post count... who cares?
