Got Worms?
This is the chit chat section, and I haven't had a crawler build for awhile so I wanted todo a build for my most recent project.
I've been buying parts to build up a new computer the past couple months...I should of just done it in one lump sum so I would of backed out .
Now, this build is ridiculous for my usage. The only computer games I play is civ 5, axis and allies, and company of hero's. And on a very limited basis (might play a game one night a month). However, I do use solidworks, matlab, photoshop, and a variety of other cad programs and IDE's quite often. Along with the usual internet browser (chrome) and Microsoft office products.
Now, I originally planned on doing a mid-level build. But my roommate who is known to be cheap ass built a computer better than the build I had laid out...and I couldn't let that stand, So I decided todo a high end build and I just about have all my parts.
List of parts below:
- Cooler Master Storm Trooper Full Tower
- Asus Maximus VII Hero Mother Board
- Intel i7 4790k CPU
- Asus ROG Poseidon 3GB GTX780 Graphics card
- G.Skill Trident 16GB 2400MHz DDR3 Ram
- Samsung 256GB 850 Pro SSD
- (2) Western Digital 1TB Black HDD's (Ran in a RAID setup)
- (2) Asus VE247H 23.6" Monitors
- Corsair AX860i Power Supply
- Asus Bluray/DVD/CD writer/reader
A little over 2k right now...and I can't decided if I want to finish my original build or to stop now. I would like to get another Poseidon GTX780 graphics card and run an SLI setup and do a Full custom water cooling loop. This'll be about another $800. Or I can stop now and buy a decent air cooler for my CPU. Decisions, Decisions.
Now, The build above is overkill for anything I'd ever do, The GTX 780 is perfectly capable of dual monitor games at ultra/high settings and still run at decent FPS. And water cooling is not really necessary either if I'm not SLIing the graphics cards and not OCing anything.
BUT, I went with a Graphics card that comes from the factory with a water block, so I feel like I need to water cool to take advantage of the setup I bought. And, occasionally, it be nice to overclock the piss out of my cpu for heavy simulations in matlab and solid works because I'm impatient. So a nice water cooling setup would be nice.
And, I really wanted to have the capability of running 4 monitors off one computer (So i'd need to SLI in another card). Right now I have 3 monitors and a 36" tv on my desk ran off two computers. One screen for overkillrc, two screens for school work, and the tv for streaming movies and music. (I have a very large corner desk....)
