Losing interest

got the same problem! Been into RC since i can remember and it always frustrates me! got a boat, e maxx, sporty comp rig, losi comp, and a wraith..............and the wraith is the only thing together right now:oops:

But i love it and i take breaks all the time, but i always come back to it!

my advice is buy a case of beer, lock the door, and you will find yourself wrenching away again! works every time for me"thumbsup"

I've been at this (R/C) thing for 30-plus years and like someone else said, I would hate to know what I've spent on the hobby through the years. I really never get bored with it and if I do I just (like another someone said) put it on the shelf and forget about it for a while. I always come back. I've recently taken a liking to VTA on-road (Vintage Trans-Am) 1/10 cars, a chassis can be bought cheap and it's a change from crawling.
As far as breaking stuff goes. My sons converted AX-10, SCX now, is over three years old, runs the plastics links, plastic shafts and never breaks. He's 6 too and can tear-up almost anything, but not the old Axial....my SCX has been super-reliable too with only self-induced stuff falling off.

The slipper is there for a reason. Why people lock them down or remove them is beyond me.

If you ain't driving it out of your crawling spot, you're doing it wrong. Can't win if you can't finish. Eventually it'll be a near bullet proof rig after upgrading this and that. And with your next rig, you'll know and do the upgrades before it hits the trail.

And like others have said, think its expensive try 1:1's.

I try to have keep multiple hobbies. I used to do rc stuff and build models. Now I have a project car. I just try to switch off whenever I get burnt out. My car burned me out real quick due to the money to get it ready for this summer. So I really haven't touched it since Thanksgiving or so. But now it's almost March and it just needs a carb rebuild and a tranny so I'm cutting back on rc stuff so I can have something cool to drive to the closer comps. The WORST thing I ever did was sold all my rc stuff about 5 years ago.

I've run into a different problem, I'm thinking about getting a second 1:1 and trying to get a newer and more efficent car to go with my XJ, so I'm trying to figure our which Non Crawler R/C's to sell to help fund it. I've been thinking for days now what I no longer run much, or what's more expensive to operate and if to sell the higher cost to use vehicle. I do habve an issue with not knowing what to sell stuff for or if something will be worth doing so (I know my 1:1 XJ and my VXL equipped, all graphite electric 4-Tec wouldn't be worth while) as well as cutting back what I spend at the LHS I work for (one co-worker suggested cutting back 90%, I'm figuring 98% and maybe get another job too) to just maintaining my current/remaining collection when something wears out and/or breaks. I have no interest in selling any of my crawler trucks (although my Mini Crawler has come to mind from time to time) because I enjoy this segment of the hobby and would hope to go to more of the comps in a more efficent vehicle.

You are lucky that you don't live in europe.Sometimes P&P to europe is twice as much more expensive than the parts for my crawler :lmao:

Are you REALLY worried about what is going to break and how much it will cost, or do you just not have the time or desire to repair your stuff? I am big into RC (Crawlers, Heli's, planes, etc.) and I only get the opportunity to fly on weekends usually and don't have a lot of time through the week to fix stuff. I don't have anyone to crawl with, so I am alone in that regard. My helis are probably my main interest and although I do like building and setting them up, it gets old after a while even though the flying does not. Maybe you just need to go out and have fun but don't push the vehicles as hard so as not to break stuff so you can get a break from repairing them? It can be done. I can take my cars out and bash the crap out of them, or I can go out and take it easy while still having fun. Our hobbies are not cheap, and if you stop spending the money on this hobby, you will just find another hobby to spend it on. If you really like the hobby, just step back, take a deep breath, and then start again."thumbsup"

Every time I get frustrated with my RC's, I shelf them. Drink a beer and remember the good old days of 1:1 wheeling....

.... Of being in a creekbed , 40 degrees outside with raspberry bushes scratching the hell out of me and my High-lift Jack just keeps sinking in the mud instead of lifting up my truck. Removeing 8-lug nuts by hand and wrestling a 200lb, 44" Swamper (muddy and wet by the way) only to discover its not only a broken stub shaft, but a steering knuckle as well.

By the grace of god, a friend just bought a Dana 60 for a swap and allowed me to take the axleshaft and knuckle to get out of the woods.

All is well and good till you realize you can't just trot on down to the local Ford dealer and buy a kingpin knuckle for a Dana 60 anymore. Good luck finding one in a bone yard. Apparently, '78 / '79 Ford Front 60's are popular with the CHEVY crowd who want to solid axle swap their IFS Junk! You have to buy a rotted parts truck from a guy who "Knows what he has" for $1800. FOR A FREAKING KNUCKLE!

Now, Instead of a $4.00 a gallon Diesel pick-up truck, Trailer and required 100 mile road trip to a legal wheeling spot... I toss the wife, kids and everyones crawlers in the trunk of the car and head out to the park.
Life is STILL good!"thumbsup"

Well said. I loved 1:1s. But life is still good with rc's.. maybe even better.

The only thing I've broke (bent actually) in a year on my scx10 is the stock plastic links. Just don't treat your crawlers like bashers. Get a 55t or even 75t motor if your broken parts are speed related, and use a slipper clutch. Then you'll learn how to finesse your way up an obstacle instead of giving her Hell up the obstacle and hoping nothing breaks! Lol.

I'm kinda of in the same boat. RC Crawlers was my passion and extra Job for Years. Comps, Product Testing, Website, Customer Service, Team Drivers, Orders, Product design... In the past I'd get burnt, but running Jp kept me in it and I would pull out of the slump. Being even more into it. Then about a year ago I just got burnt out so much. I started slipping and the hobby just became job I wasn't enjoying it anymore. So I had to step back 110% and just get out for a while. Things are starting to slow down and I can see straight again. I have one project I'm wanting to finish before summer. I kept my 1.9 comp rig and sold off my 2.2 and super. The 1.9 Class just feels like it was back in 2005 or so. Laid back and fun. I plan on getting back into comp'ing next month with my 1.9 again... But I can see were one can get burnt out easy. I have seen tons of guys come and go here on RCC. Many guys have stepped back from RC's and if we are lucky. They come back later.

My buddies I rc with lose interest then I always end up with tons of cars sitting around then i lose interest. I need better friends.:ror:

Over the years, I've gone in and out of RCing. In the past I always sold everything, then when I wanted to get back in, I'd have to buy all new stuff. This time around I'm keeping one crawler and two different cars.

"thumbsup" this is how you do it, i've sat on my RC's for months without using them, you know you're going to want to go play again some day, might aswell be ready for it.

Just wondering what you guys do when you start losing interest in RC`s. We go crawling every Saturday. I told my buddy it wasnt the hobby i`m losing interest in, it`s wondering what i`m gonna break this week and how much is it gonna cost.Makes it not fun anymore cause i carry my truck out EVERY WEEK!
More upgrades you do just causes stress on something else and then it breaks.I dont wanna look back and have a $2000 RC either. I have a Wraith, Stampede 4x4 and a Redcat Nitro and last weekend i had something break on all 3. The Redcat is listed on ebay and soon as i get the parts to fix the pede im gonna sell it too and then just have my Wraith. Have any of you felt like this before? It`s not fun anymore cause it`s to costly lol

Hobby:
A hobby is a regular activity or interest that is undertaken for pleasure, typically done during one's leisure time.

We've all been where you are mentally right now. But taking the definition of "Hobby" in consideration you are on the edge of both leisure time issues and pleasure issues.

If you feel pressured in to an EVERY weekend thing....there goes the leisure aspect

If you are sweating bullets constantly about your next broken part and or where the funds appear from or even the grand total sunk in your RC.... There goes ALL the pleasure

A couple suggestions....

Put your foot down to your buddy that twice a month (or whatever schedule) is all you want to do for a while.... Get a grip back on the LEISURE aspect.

Instead of driving it like you stole it.... Drive it like you are the poorest person on earth and that RC needs to last you 5 more years. Actually, keeping that mental motive in your mind and working your absolute best to remain competitive will make you a better driver, if not a great one. ... Result should easily be little to no broken parts and the PLEASURE back in your hobby.

Can't help but thinking if you are breaking something every time out..... Makes me think either you are the unluckiest person ever, or you are doing more bashing then crawling/scale crawling.

I think that's life of any hobby I allwase had rc trucks, and when the gas monster trucks hit we got them, but it turns into a job and not a hobby anymore and you get burnt out quick, it's just nature of the beast, speed and going hard cost money you got it or you don't. I just pulled my savage out after years of being boxed up and the next thing I knew, I'm on my tractor building a track and back at the hobby shop. It's a cycle and most people see the trucks and think There cool buy all kind of crap for them and then sell there stuff, true people of the hobby keep mostly all there stuff I'n a collection and bring them out to play from time to time key word hobby

My buddy was in the exact same position, it's even better when it's your last resort after watching 3 truck literally pull your truck apart, then when get the truck in the air then starts to get sideways right at your friend who's sticking 2x4's under the tire, basically threatening to seriously hurt him if it slips. Fun times:roll:.
