I was toying with that idea, but the tires are HUGE in the bobbed bed... it looks kinda funny? Ill post some pics

I like option 2 for the perfomance benefits (lower CG and less weight over the rear axle) over option 1.
 
Option 1 makes it look a bit more like a jeep speed type of rig and has my vote. Nice start Verne! "thumbsup"
 
Number 1 looks kinda like a pre-runner and 2 looks more like a trail truck both look cool but I think I would go with number one.
 
Thats 2 votes for option 1 and 1 vote for option 2...man thats a confusing sentance! I may try to make it so it can be run with either spare mounting location?
 
What could be cool is if u laid one up against the cab at a angle then laid the other against that. If that makes sense I've seen it on a few off road race trucks. I'll try to find a pic.

Im liking option 2,to me,option 1 is to much.

I flip flop, but yea, option 1 is a bit big and gaudy for a trail rig. I still think I may build it so both options are....an option.

OK here is what I tinkered with this AM.

I got my Vanqish Zero Ackerman outer knuckles a few days back. it was time to fab up some 3/16ths solid steering for this bad boy. Here are the details of how I did this.

First here is the stock axial steering. You can see that the inside tire is actually turning less than the outside tire. That causes the tires to fight each other and steering is reduced. Zero Ackerman knuckles will make this better and increase the steering of this crawler.

Here is a lenght of 3/16ths steel about 5mm longer than the distance between the Axial knuckle bolts. I bend the ends to help clear the differential.

Next heat the ends with MAP gas till they are glowing red

While red hot whack it with a big hammer on an anvil a few times to flatten out the steel to about 1/8th inch thick.

Now measure out the distance necessary between the two ends of the outer knuckles. I usually have a little 1mm to .5mm tow-in and drill with an 1/8th inch drill bit. With Zero ackerman knuckels this is the same as the distance between the outer knuckle holes on the axle minus .5mm to 1mm. I think I drilled mine at about 153mm

Then I round off the ends of my new tierod and bolt it to the knuckles like this. use 3mm machine screws threaded tightly in the knuckle and then tighten with a nylock nut and then back off a 1/4 or half turn so the holes in the tie rod's ends turn freely:

Here is the steering throw with the new set up:

The Ackerman angle is better and there is more throw so more steering.

I brazed on a tab and also made a little drag link to connect to the steering servo.

Love how this is going. I vote for the second tire mounting idea. Not only for performance but I think it looks better and more trail rig like. But if you are really going for the Jeepspeed then option 1. I just like the looks of #2 the best. Like others have said, very nice fab. Or is it "FAP" or maybe the fab makes me wanna fap:lmao:
