I currently have an old school Clod Buster based MOA crawler. My problem is when pulling up to an object at low throttle one motor seems not to pull as hard as the other. My set up is a Novak Super Rooster esc with two Integy 55 turn motors. At first I thought it was the rear motor giving the trouble, but the front will also do it when backing up a object.

Is this an esc problem? Should I consider using a esc rated for dual motors? Is it a wiring issue? Or is this just the way it is?

Would I need to run two batteries or "Y" them from one? Also would I "Y" the two esc's into the second one receiver port for throttle?
 
Here's a wiring diagram.
I've never "Y" connected 2 esc's that might work IDK.

I guess the dumb question is what is causing the motors to do this? I know a lot of MOA crawlers out there use only one esc or even a dual motor esc like the Outcry or a E Maxx esc.

I feel as if I'm getting over my head on this project.
 
Ah! Now I'm getting somewhere! I found one post where a fella had basically the same set up with simalar problem and went to 3s power. Could this be something worth looking into?

I would think you'd still have clod stall with 3s battery.. just my 2 cents.

Yeah kinda makes sense, it's all about the load on the motors. I read the Clod stall articles and I think my next step and the cheapest will be to try a stagger the pinion gears, then I'll try staggering the motor turns for the front and rear. After that I guess I'll live with it.

I've been in your shoes years ago. Ran the exact same motors, same speed control with nimh batteries and had a decent amount of clod stall. I now run 2 esc's with holmes hobby motors and a 3s lipo. The feeling I'm getting from you is you'd prefer to fix the problem as cost effectively as possible. While the ultimate fix is a double esc I ran my rig for years with a single and actually grew to like a bit of clod stall. A small amount of stall will let the front tires attempt to find traction before the rear end loops you out. My recommendation would be to upgrade your motors to holmes hobby motors. These will blow the integy's out of the water. You may also try running a 1 tooth smaller pinion gear on the rear motor.
 
I know this is old thread --- but after flaunting my clod axles in a massive 1/6th 1/5th ish sized MEGA truck build --- its clear to me the brushed motors (u got up to 570 sized fit in there) with 6tooth 32 pitch and all metal gears and axles casings and RC4WD XVD's..... the brushed motor that is MOST strained always stalls first while the motor that has least strain or weight sitting on the tires will rotate or spin is grip is lacking. This is regardless if have two brushed esc's (was running 1080 G2's one each front /rear).

It's not too bad if the less strained part of rig can pull/push you thru the obstacle enough to where the highly strained motor can get spinning again. So I found it worked.

But ultimately the rig I am running is 34lbs and so I just neeed more torque and both motors to always turn no matter what the strain and weight balance. (Ie on a hill all weight and grip shifts to rear so it stops turning while front might start soinning) and you might go nowhere.

Solution --- dual brushless

Dual brushless outrunners using AM32 Quadcopter esc's is the answer I you really want to fix that.

The brushless has more torque (go with super low kv rated motors) and they just don't stall easy and on dual escs my rigs rolls beautifully smooth and neither motor will stall out at all.

Converse is you CAN break stuff with the bigger torque profiles!!!!

See SCX6 CLOD truck thread is scale large rigs forum for the dual brushless setup. It's not for going fast, but this is crawling so no need there I don't think!
