Making tires shorter

K so I got brave and tried to shorten my 1.9 proline boggers. I kinda butchered the first 2 but I think I may be able to save them. And the second 2 are ok ish but I messed up on the sidewalls. So i have a couple questions. Can i take a dremel with maybe a sanding drum to make the places I cut round again or will that not work to well on rubber? And I didnt like the way the glue turned out. It was really brittle I dont know if i used to much or used crappy glue. How much glue does it take to hold em together and what's the best glue you've used that's not tire glue? And last question, I'd like to get another set of the proline boggers but I wanted to know if anyone out there would be willing or knew anyone willing to shorten them down to around 4.75 for me and I would pay them for their time and pay shipping?

Got no experience with them myself but I know the RC4WD Boggers are 4.79".

I like Bob Smith IC-2000, it's more flexible than regular CA glue and it's black in color at least as well.

I picked up some rc4wd boggers from a guy on here but I couldnt get myself to mount them after seeing them side by side with the prolines. The proline lugs and spacing are just so much more beefy and to me match the real boggers better. That's why I wanna shorten the prolines cuz I've always loved the gnarly look of the boggers and thorn birds on the old blazers and broncos

Thanks for the option. I'll have to check it out. I was just using regular old super glue from the store and it's just brittle when its dried

You can use Bob Smith Industries or Proline thin CA works to connect the rubber together then over lap that with the IC-2000 on the inside. You'll wear out the tread before it comes apart.
Only issue I found with the IC-2000, is that it dries out and becomes unusable after it has been opened. So if your only doing a couple sets of tires don't buy a big bottle...probably the 1/2 oz bottle will work for what you have in mind. "thumbsup"

Definitely some good info on the videos. My only problem is I wanna keep the same 1.9 wheel diameter so that means I've gotta cut the sidewall out of the tire correct? And then glue it back after I shorten the tread?

Honestly, I have 0 experience with either tire. I picked up the prolines cuz I was going to run them on a monster truck and eneded up not building that and the dude I got the rc4wd from said those ones were really good. The reason for me not running the rc4wd isnt performance, it's the big monster oversize lugs and look for a 1.9 tire where the rc4wd I feel has almost a little too small of lugs and tread face for a 1.9 bogger. So I have absolutely zero actual reasons to say either one is better than the other. It's just the looks of it for me.

Looks is 75% for me so I'll have to take a closer look at the two and possibly going down the same path as you than.

No problem! And I agree I like the scale look of the tires and these wont be my main crawling tires. They'll just be for trailing or just for fun so I'm looking 100% at looks. If i have any success at shortening the next set of boggers that I'm gonna order shortly I'll send you some pics of them on the truck

You could try reducing them, by cutting a wedge out and then stretch the tires onto your wheels. This shouldn't be a problem if you give the tires time to cure up and use beadlock rims. Possibly start with one tire to get the size you need, then just match the others. Would save a whole bunch of work. Make sure to thoroughly wash your tires inside and out before you do any gluing, to get rid of the mold release.

Ya after watching those videos I was considering trying that cuz man that would be 100 times easier!! I was actually gonna sit down tonight and try and measure out to see if cutting them down to about a 1.7 would be short enough for me. I wanna be around 4.65-4.75". Closer to 4.75. And thank you for reminding me about cleaning the tires too!!! I completely spaced that!

So just a little update. I found another set of boggers instead of buying new and tried just cutting a wedge instead of cutting the whole sidewall out. Didnt turn out too bad. Definitely not perfect but should hold up just fine. I got 1 done tonight. It reduced the hole in the tire enough that it wasnt wanting to cooperate going onto my lurc wheels but they mounted extremely easy to my gearheads. I did end up getting a handful of tires to cut the sidewalls out of as well so I can salvage the first set that I cut up and messed up on the sidewalls. Just cutting a wedge was definitely easier and less time consuming but I do like the idea of them mounting easier by keeping the same diameter rim hole. Either way they should clear no problem now! Put up a couple pictures next to my proline bfg krawlers and a few others on the truck.

That looks great! Glad it worked out for you. Forgot to mention...good sharp scissors are paramount when doing your cuts.

I found these to be excellent...the middle scissors are the ones I use.

My wife uses them for her crafting. I tried them a while back and found them to be great when cutting rubber. Best investment I made for this task. "thumbsup"
