Mamba Max Pro limitations

I've noticed a consistent issue with the MMP lately and couldn't find a spec limitation on it.
I could run the MMP all day long with any motor combo.......as long as it;s a 540 can.
As soon as I drop in a big 550 can such as a Speed Passion 2250 or 4000kv it hesitates.
Hesitates description I define as, when I punch the throttle from a stand still it cogs harshly. Almost acts like it has bridged motor leads.
The only bandaid fix I've found was to modify the MMP throttle profile to a steep ramp up, which sucks.
I've tried a few different motors, all brand new and a Novak HV4.5 was the least effected, a very slight cog.
I know quite a few other people have these issues which seems more present now with the birth of the FoFF cars. Also alot of four wheel drive 1/10 SC, Truggy and Buggy cars are getting this. Most the race guys are going back to the 1/8 CC, Tekin and LRP ESCs for reliability.

I need to presume that the larger can demands more amperage than the MMP can deliver?
Someone told me that the MMP is limited to 540 can but I can not find that info.
Does anyone know if this is true?

Sounds like what mine was doing with the tekin 21.5 in reverse untill I added a bec....I'm sure you already tried that though. Maybe a bad solder joint on motor/ interference?

not sure about most of the larger motors out there but i know it can run a 1/8th castle/neu 2200kv motor on 4s all day long. whats the batteries amp rating that you are using with it? what is the mmp's start-up power set to?

MMP and Tekin t-8 1350 with no issues. This is running 6s with 1300mh 35c batts.

I run mine with a novac 4.5t 550 can. The first MMP ( it died after 2 weeks ) worked well with the sensor, but cogged without. The second did not work out of the box. BUT, the old school mamba max really cogs with the novac 550 motor, but it keeps working when the MMP gave up. I am now in the market for something new. The pile of dead ESC's on my desk it getting pretty big ( Novak HV, Tekin R1pro, and 2 MMP). I am thinking Hobby king Castle Mamba Monster knock off. The Castle guy mentioned it was almost a dead copy. For $69 I am going to try it.

We've tried LIPos like 45c Thunder Powers to Turnigy (alleged) 20c outputs, all the same. External BECs and caps, same results.
I'll try a Tekin RS next.
I have not tried a non-sensored 550 can, but I prefer running sensored on everything but my 1/8 buggy.

Just throwing a wild idea out there, have you played with starting power?

what radio are you running? If you can, adjust throttle exponential to around 30-40 and see if that helps.

I'm in the process of installing a new set up.
DX3R Pro, MMP, SpeedPassion Silver Arrow 4000kv 550 can and Thunder Power 4200mAh 3s 30C.
We'll see how it goes.
If I encounter the same issues I will video it and post it.

Good luck with that 4000kv. My Citrix 4000kv didn't like 3s at all and got extremely hot. I'm trying the 1/8 2500kv version now to see if I have better results.

The 2500kv 1/8th scale motor is leaps and bounds better then the 4000kv. Just need to gear it a little differently and the speed is still there with none of the high temps. If you have the space go big or go home!

Here's a little update;
I took everything out of a particular car and put it in a new one and it runs perfect.
It turns out the HPI MTDT I was running the electronics in has gear snatch, not a STD.
The axle gears are so sloppy they are throwing each other out of phase and acting as though it's a terrible motor cog.
The fix will be to regear and properly shim. new gears.
