So I've been a big fan of solid axle MT's for a long time. With the whole lockdown thing, I've finally gotten around to putting the ideas I've had in my head into the computer, and from there making what I hope will be a competitive shaft-driven monster truck.

Starting with the axles, they are Vanquish OCP axles with Incision under-drive gears front and rear. I'm running open diffs, front has 20 million diff oil, rear is mostly anti-wear grease with a dollop of 20 million oil. Vanquish C hubs front and rear, Vanquish knuckles in the back for adjustable toe and some slight camber and The Scale Shop camber knuckles in the front.

The link/sway mounts are printed, I will be printing them from a high quality material from Shapeways eventually, right now these are just test pieces from my home printer. I moved the lower mounting point a lot further down and forward. Trailing arms are Vanquish Yeti arms. Swaybars are Vanquish, the bar itself locks into a collar that pivots on flanged bearings that sit in the chassis. Shocks and shock mounts are Tekno parts from our 8th scale cars.

The chassis side plates are 2 pieces per side so I could move the shock mounts closer to the center. This gives more clearance for the shocks (especially near the collars) around the chassis. Currently the chassis is printed but I will be getting it cut from 4mm aluminum. The bottom plate holds the center mount from the Axial EXO Terra and a shorty pack positioned vertically. It too is printed from my home printer, and again I'll be getting a better one eventually. I have 30k in the center diff which I immediately realized was much too light, I'll be changing that out later.

There's a printed ESC tray, rx box, and battery mount between the frame. They're doing double duty as chassis braces.

Yeah, these shocks have boots on them. But the upper shock mounting points were a little low on the chassis for the ride height and suspension travel I'm looking for. I've since printed another chassis with the upper mounting points raised higher. I believe I went around 4-6mm higher then what is pictured. I plan on sending the chassis file off to be cut today or tomorrow. I've already sent the other parts off to be printed from stronger material so I can doing some real driving and testing.

Just spit balling here. Think about making a double shear plate that secured the shocks and swaybar back to the chassis. Just a random thought, if you wanted to be sure to make the shocks extra secure to the chassis.

I do have a slight concern about the swaybars being a little far out, but I'm not concerned at all about the shocks. These standoffs are from our 8th scale buggies/truggies and we've never had issues with them. In addition, the mounts are actually connected by a post running between the chassis. It's an Axial 56.5mm threaded link.

If the swaybar ends up being a little too far out I was thinking I'll just cut the end off and move the mounting point in closer to the chassis. With the bend that the Vanquish arms have I can still get the link to be straight even if the bar is shortened.

One cool tuning option I have is that I can run shock standoffs that are 4mm shorter than these if I want. That will move the tops of the shocks in towards the chassis. Right now the shocks are ~1 degree leaning in, the other standoffs will make it ~ 3 degrees.

Nice! Who cut the chassis for you?

And where did you get those blue wires for your Castle ESC?
