Mid Throttle Noise

I tested the chassis and the gears were really loud so I thought the pinion (17t that came with kit) was too tight. I backed it off and the gear noise is better but she still howls at mid throttle...I noticed the spur gear has quite a bit of play, is that normal for the CMX? I rechecked the build on the transmission and I think everything is put together correctly, any help is appreciated.

I had to shim my spur gear, it had quite a bit of play in and out of the trans. I don't know if that's what's causing the noise, but definitely isn't good for it..
