Mitch's Hpi Venture SBK

Thanks again Nate. I'm hoping to get out sometime next week. Shift work can be a blessing as It's quiet out. Hopefully the steering set up works good. If it doesn't then at least I tried. Got plenty of Ascender driveshafts laying around. I took my Land Rover out with the Venture and want to get some video if I can. The Ascender is such a good drive, but the Venture is different, but pretty much as capable.

I'm hoping the spares situation improves, but it seems to have gone quiet at the moment.
 
Well got out for a 2 hour run today. Also took my almost 5 year old Land Rover Ascender with me. That did fine until the steering servo (Savox 0231sg) gave up. The Venture was very impressive. Some body roll due to the hard body but was actually very good to drive and went up some stuff I never thought it would. The shock oil is too light though (I used the 30 weight that came with the kit). The Turnigy 30kg ( it says) is also not powerful enough. If a tyre got jammed against a rock it just wouldn't turn, so I have to find something better.

Weight is about 8lb 6oz. It is almost 3lb heavier than the Ascender( 5lb 13oz), I like the way they drive differently. The Venture is more about traction due to the extra weight, while the Ascender is more about wheel speed and letting the lighter weight bounce over obstacles. Also both run 30 turn motors. Tekin FXR and Tekin 30T handwound in the Ascender, and Holmes 30T TorqueMaster Expert 540 With an old Mamba Max Pro esc.

Some upgrades. Just for looks really. Will write more later as off to work. Venture has only been out once since video, due to work and servo dying.

Important to install the motor mount screws first as I didn't and had to remove the shock tower screws and do this.

Apart from installing, but not fully tightening the motor mount screws until all other screws are in, the mount is quite loose between the frame rails each side, rather than a sliding fit like the stock mount. The mount is also a bit narrower across the frame rails, so I put the bumper mount back in before tightening everything down. Also is doesn't allow the motor to drop down any further than the stock mount.

The link mount on the axle was easy to install. It comes with screws, but the stock ones will fit. It would be possible to use one of these on the rear and use a panhard rod if someone felt like doing that.

I have Been looking at those servo mounts, looks much better in your pic's i must say. Awsome build "thumbsup"
 
Thanks. I have some GPM parts on other trucks. I wouldn't call it amazing quality, but well made. I haven't had a problem with any of their stuff.

This build is almost done, but I think the body would drop 3 or 4 mm without tyre rub. I am so close to 'finishing' it, but as usual another idea pop's up. I still have my Gen8 PACK to start yet, and I have had that 3 months lol.

Wow that's an awesome servo mount and the servo looks like it's all aluminum cased. Some good stuff right here.
 
Thaanks. The servo is a Turnigy MG959 rated at 30kg, but it doesnt seem quite that good, but does the job ok.

The only other part I want to change is the diff covers or at least the front one as it tends to jam up easily because of the shape.
