Rock Crawler
Guess I'm going to start a new thread for this build... Going to post pics and start making a few crawling vids.
I have a thread in 1.9's on this truck setup as a MEGA Truck ---- but just got bored with it, the suspension geometry was AWFUL, its performance was lackluster, and I didn't put the effort into it cuz it just wasn't quite ever right.
Finally had the time to sit down, work out the suspension, build my own custom set of long four links with steel rod/tube and aluminum ball links.
Got it on awesome looking 1.0's -- steel stamped beadliocks with DJC big stickies -- 76mm tall tires with gnarly tread pattern.
Got some real smooth squishy 18th scale oils shocks on it.
Tore down the axles, shimmed the ring and pinions - get them SMOOTH as butter now, and re-assembled.
Truck is now lower ride height, with somewhat more reasonable looking tires ---- no longer MEGA tired.
Vids soon -- I did a quick run but my Tx went low out the gates -- first impression is its VERY SLOW but also crawler performance, tire stickiness is OUTSTANDING!!!!!
So far I like it because its small but uses all carbon steel gears in the axles and the metal transmission -- and 32 pitch to boot!!! None of that tiny .4 mod / .5 mod crud in here
It was +2inch longer wheelbase with the MEGA setup, now its more like +1.5 inch from stock MN82 wheelbase, still fair amount longer than a stock MN82 just fyi --- this puts ALOT of strain on the rear axle under bound up loads, sticky tires, and high torque power of 2212 brushless Outrunner on AM32 Sinewave programming -- it needs the 32 pitch, I can already see strain in the pinion gear because I left it terribly loose for way too long running it on giant 95mm 1.9's Rock Crusher like tires. Each axle took one 1/2mm wide, 3mm x 6mm shim and its pretty perfect, I have a .1mm width on the way, but I doubt it takes it -- probably will grind out at that point with not enough lash.
As I said will be getting rock crawl vids going asap -- weather should be good, it is all water-proofed with Conformal epoxy so water/mud IS on the table lol, it just has no weheelspeed. Motor is 1000kv, I have exact same one but in 2700kv on order, currently on 12t pinion in transmission using MN compact metal 3-gear trans -- its stout but super noisy too making it really hard to tell when the drivetrain is bound up to a danger point and the 2212 will SHRED parts if you tell it too.
