I'm new to rcmt . and I'm going to try and build one. So far I have a barbarian chassis a traxxas brushless motor ,mmp esc and a hitec 7954 servo. I need info on what axles to use should they be open or locked. What stocks and oil wt. This will be a backyard basher no comp truck just yet. Thanks for your help in advance.

Most are using ar60's open diff . Shocks it's really personal preferance . I've seen so many diff used . People seem to like the g mades with resi's .where in Houston ? I'm next to missouri city . Working on trucks now . Plan on some monster racing . Maybe mega and sand drags also at my house .

Okay cool I'm in the Humble area. I was wondering do anybody around here have any mt races. Once I build it maybe we can hook up. By the way do you think the traxxas velion motor is enough power or should I go with something else.

Yeah I wasn't to sure about it myself. Also what's a good starting point for the gearing.

In my experience...
First thing you need to decide on is the size of the truck you want to run.
A traxxas motor will be plenty if not too much for a small light weight like a Hpi wheely king, but not nearly enough for a larger monster truck. You mentioned the barbarian chassis which is typically run with Clod sized tires, Ar60's are a bit on the weak side for that much tire though you can upgrade as you break stuff. Open diff's are the preference and for the money traxxas big bore shocks are hard to beat.

Go with a castle creations sct brushless ditch the Vxl it don't got the 4 pole torq as mentioned before check out my build tread for ideas!
