Motor-gearing selection?

That doesnt seem possible. The lightweight 2.2 case is the same material, physically smaller and there is one less gear. If I do all the same weight reduction to both cases/gearsets, the 2.2 gearbox should be considerably lighter.

The reason I say that is if you keep the servo mounted the same way. With the 38:1 cases you will not be able to run delrin tubes, which are over 1.5oz lighter than al tubes. On my 2.2 a 7950 barely fits with a 13t pinion. I can weigh both cases but i think the difference will be marginal after milling and i don't think the extra gear even weights 1/2 an ounce.

So I think you lose more with the delrin tubes than you gain in the extra gear. That was my thought anyway?

Everything you're saying makes sense. As far as servo mounting...I may just not put the servo behind the tube. I have already been thinking about what to do with it. I'll probably just go back to the way I used to mount mine before the 65:1's even existed. I had a plate that mounted the servo flat on the axle tube.


Two extra bearings and one extra gear and the gears in the 65:1 case do not have pins to hold the gears they have set screws holding the gears to the bearing stubs.

The HD machined 2.2 gears are the same as the gears in the 65:1 cases in that they use the set-screws, not pins.

The final gears is also different. The 38:1 gears use a 32 pitch gear and the 65:1 gears use a 48 pitch. The 1st gear in both are the same but the other two are not interchangeable. I've tried and the locker from the 65:1 cases does not fit in the 38:1 case.

I heard the 65:1s have room to store an apple inside just in case you need a mid-crawl snack...
 
So what are you wanting to know? Theres an extra gear in the 65:1's and they take 48 pitch pinions.

Basically do they look the same on the outside ? Or is there a difference in apearance, I couldnt find a good
Side by side comparison. I understand that one has a extra gear and is stronger.
and one is pin vs bolt and is lower ratio.

Those are both 38:1 cases. Silly goose!

The easiest way to tell is, if the two separate motor screw holes are on the top (like the pictures above) it's a 38:1 case. If the two holes are on the bottom and the slotted hole (one bottom hole in the above pic) is on the top, it's a 65:1 case. Also the 38:1 case uses a really long pinion and the 65:1 case uses a short normal looking pinion.
