Mounting tires on Beadlock Wheels

Hi everyone I got some 1.9 super swampers and 1.9 Raceline Moster Beadlock wheels.

I searched this newbie section, and watched YouTube videos but can't for the life of me get them on. It doesn't help that I don't even know what a "bead" is- is that the tire edge?

I'm not even sure they are compatible.

In the videos they always line them up where the ring just mounts flush with back and they screw it on all la-tee-da no prob.

I know the trick where you use a circular base to punch the rim up, but I can never get the ring anywhere near enough to screw it all together.

Thanks in advance...

The "bead" is just the lip formed on the tire. Flex one of the tires open and you can see the lip is formed at a right angle to the opening so it can slip into the slot that you see around a bead lock wheel when you have removed the ring. The ring just holds the tire against the area by the slot to lock that lip in and keep the tire from peeling off. Make sense?

Now that you know what the bead is look to see if you can fit that lip into that slot or not. Is the rubber too fat or the slot to narrow? If it is just difficult but possible use a drop of dish soap and a drop or two of water on your finger to slick that lip before inserting it. You need to get that lip seating into the slot all the way before you hammer down that ring.

Right exactly. I used spit originally lol but once I get the first tire lip (bead) into the wheel and turn it over we have about a 1/4 inch to go before I can even think about screwing it all together. I see how the lip can go down into the rim but whether I push or lever it with a screwdriver- It simpy won't stay put- and I can't screw it down. I contacted rc4wd about this but since they can't bother to put instructions in the box I'm not too optimistic about that.

-I'm thinking the tire is too WIDE? Is that a specification that I should have looked for?

its possible but unlikely. ive put some wide tires on some very narrow wheels. most likely a problem with the bead and or wheel. some pics would help a bunch.

Sometimes there's no lip on a TSL tire...I have two sets of them, 5 out of the 8 tires have defective lips and will not hold a bead on the VP rims I have.

Sorry I have an ancient desktop so it's hard for me to load pics. I pulled the lip to the side on the last pic so you can see the clearance. I just can't get that second half lip to go down into that slot no matter what I do.

And according to the rc4wd site I'm doing something wrong - it says all their tires and wheels should be compatible.

Eh, most of their tires will work on most of their wheels. I'm not sure about the particular wheel that you have ( no personal experience w/ it) but in all honesty, the "gap" looks about right. Sometimes you can use 3 longer screws placed in a triangle pattern through the lock ring and slowly start to close the gap and use whatever tool you have available to coax the bead into the groove on the wheel. It could help as well to support the wheel off of the table surface to help the foam shift over to that side, making a bit easier to get the lock ring to cooperate.

That's it!!! It worked! Thank you! Thanks everyone for helping.

I knew I bought that spare bolt set for a reason.

There is a little gap still, but I guess that is normal?

Ok thanks. I redid it and the gap is not as big. After all that these things are HUGE. I think these are too big for my d90! (maybe fit my jeep) so overall height is something I know now to look for in the future.

This is next to the stock d90 kit tires:

Glad you were able to get it sorted. Yes...tire height (expressed as Outer Diameter or "OD" for short) is one of the most important specs to consider when buying a set of tires, particularly for a scaler. Within each wheel size, tire ODs from one tire to another can vary by over an inch, which can make a big difference to both appearance and gearing. On a D90, anything taller than 4.1" or so is likely to cause rubbing unless you trim the fenders or raise the body.

Thanks new2 -

Now a whole new wheel delema. The wheel on the bottom is rc4wd and works with my cc-01.

The one on the right is rc4wd and DOES NOT work with the cc01 -same with the cheapo wheel on the left there is a big hexagon hole there and some kind of adapter is missing?

Lol. That's an easy one. You just need a set of 12mm wheel hexes like these:
Axial Narrow Aluminum Hub, Black, 12mm, 4pc
And you had to go and link to the one online store that won't work with my tablet! :flipoff:

Just kidding. I like them and ordered before but if you put a gun to my head I could not do it on this thing. Software compatibility thing.

And holy cow I thought those silver beadlocks were hard- now I'm trying to get some white wagon wheels together fuggetabout it. About to beat my head against the wall.

The holes are smaller and I don't have long screws to wedge it down like before I will have to buy some.

I ended up using a bolt through the center hole with plastic washers on either end and a wing nut to tighten when I was mounting to wagons.

Edit: I forgot to mention that, on the wagons, I made a bracket out of a scrap strip of metal wrapped in electrical tape (so as not to scratch the finish) to span from lip to lip across the front side. I ran the bolt through a hole in the center of the bracket so that I had room to get the nuts onto the screws underneath.

Believe it nor not that occurred to me- I just didn't have the hardware laying around to pull it off. I did notice that the white paint will scratch if you're not careful - and the paint was thin in areas to begin with.

I ordered the adapters from rpp on my ancient desktop I dragged out -using windows XP haha I needed some other stuff including a winch bumper for my renegade can't wait.

Haha the winch is fun.

Anyway... New Problem

My RTR Axial Renegade has unique wheel fasteners or nuts whatever it's a special kind of key? The hex thingy that my cc-01 uses does not work.
