I really have no idea what possessed me to start a rally car,
could have been all the cool builds going on,
could be the fact that I'm surrounded by semi flat dirt,
could even be the fact that I'm still waiting on parts for my Wraith,
but most of all it could be that I just "Can't Let Turtle Have All The Fun" :ror:

Anyhow, one of the reasons I didn't do it sooner is the 200mm rally conversion kits made by Associated are no longer available.
They reproduce every part but the front arms.
I figure between the laser cutter and my mill I will be able to make a set of arms that will work just fine.

If anyone is thinking of doing the same with their old TC3, here is a link for the manual, it includes a parts list of what's needed for the conversion.
http://teamassociated.com/pdf/cars_and_trucks/TC3/3020.pdf

Shortened Parts list of what is required for the conversion:
3895 TC3 rear tower
3980 TC3 Rally front bumper
3982 TC3 200mm front arm (unavailable)
3984 TC3 200mm rear arm
3986 200mm composite CVD
6264 Turnbuckle, 1.375" (5ea)
6274 Ball cup (10ea)
6461 Shock Shaft, .56 (2ea, 4 total)
6494 Green spring, 3.5 lb.
8232 Black spring, 3.2 lb.

One old TC3 :ror:

A quick gutting and ditch the blue aluminum hardware, I'm way passed the AE blue era.
That's better.

In talking to Ty, he mentioned that a inner body was extremely important, seeing that they didn't make one for the TC3 Rally I opt'd for some .040" ABS I had laying around.
No the prettiest thing but it will work. It will also make a good platform for the drivers.

New specs to include:
200mm conversion
CS170 servo (had it laying around)
Castle SCT (Sidwinder & 4pole 3800kv)
2S Hardcase lipo.
Subi body
Various wheels and tires.. :ror:

More to come as parts show up.

The only thing I don't like is the whole 200mm thing. All the really detailed cool Tamiya bodies are 190mm.

It doesn't have to be 200mm to work well in the dirt.

So what else can I get you to buy?:ror:

Looking good so far.
I made up a TC3 last spring for a rally setup. Built it up and then never even ran it before I sold it !

You might know but you can convert the steering setup to the NTC3 steering setup pretty easy. It's mainly to keep the little rocks from getting stuck in the TC3 steering. But you have a cover.
NTC3 STEERING RACK MODIFICATION

Picture of mine setup.

I did just finish building a Tamiya TB-01 !

Ya, but for some reason my TC3 only measures in at 180 on "0" offsets. :ror: I don't have to use the arms, but needed the rest of the parts for the shock setup.

i dont know this

::HPI RACING::

with a set of 3mm offset rims will make a 190mm into a cool 200mm rally "thumbsup"

I like that too! "thumbsup"

Damn, all that reading and I didn't even see that. I have been staring at my linkage thinking how bad that might suck to get a rock in there. Thanks for the post! "thumbsup"

That is the one body it is worth it for, but other then that, there really isn't anything that has caught my eye.

Your to picky, and a Subi lover.. :lmao:

Hey mthead, do you mind taking a picture of the rear of that chassis, it looks alot like my exceed car. I broke a pivot block awhile back and i dont feel like paying $25 shipping on a 4$ part. So im looking for an easier part to get.

Looking good John! I'll go back to the 190mm set up when/if I ever break a front arm. But for now the 200mm works fine. Plus I'm not that king on spending $40+ for a body that just gets worked anyway. No offense Ty, I'm just a cheap ass when it comes to things that get replaced often.

I'm going to have to do that steering mod too, that's one thing I could see being a problem from the get go.

Now that I got mine all cleaned up again, 8 hours worth:roll:, I'll get a thread up too.

I got that one, the detailing sucks and the proportions are off. Don't get me wrong its still cool because its a Subaru, but its kinda goofy looking on the car.

Tamiya all the way!

Here ya go..

For a rough guesstimate, the pin holes are 1.65" apart and the mount holes are 1.87" apart, hope that helps.. "thumbsup"

Sweet, well good buddy if you'd answer my PM and get me the pin to pin measurements off your 200mm front arms I just might make you a spare.. :ror:

Cheap ass, that made me laugh.. :lmao:

Now that the Holidays are over, lets see if some parts show up!!

Oops, forgot to mention, I ordered a TB01 inner body just to see if it fits good enough, wasn't sure if anyone tried that on a TC3 yet.

I'll do that tonight, I spaced it out. They should be 5mm longer I would think.

I was thinking the same thing with the TB01 over tray, it's the same basic shape but might be narrower than the TC. Would be great if it works though!"thumbsup"

I.m interested did you make the front arms (200mm)

That's it! Now I have to dig out my TC4 that I have laying around somewhere. I used to have a TC3 with the Rally conversion and loved it ... wish I never sold it. Was one of the funnest cars ever!

Waiting, waiting, waiting...

I'll remember to be as quick with letting you know if the TB01 over trays fit the TC3 decent enough to make work..

:flipoff:

:lmao::lmao:

Not yet, on the to-do list which is very long :ror: I want to see how the Tamiya 07 Subi body fits first before I widen it out. I have a few +3 wheels too so that may be a easy cheater route.

Sweet!! Got any extra front arms? :ror:

So I got a little bit done, installed the new shock shafts, springs and lighter oil (40wt, 3 hole piston). She has a nice respectable 3/4" clearance.
IMG_1378.jpg

Also modded the servo area in preparation for the NTC3 steering conversion. I have two #50 holes drilled where I think they should be, I'll wait until the parts show up to double check before going full size.
IMG_1379.jpg

Finally installed the motor,

I believe I have enough power to tear up my lighted aluminum diffs. Never found the box with the original steel diffs so I ordered two sets to have on hand. If I go through with the 200mm conversion I'll have to throw them in or do the weed wacker mod to the new bones. Those steel pins in the bones will kill the aluminum diffs in one pack.

Build #3 on hold for parts.. :ror:

Hahaha wish I did. Are you going to keep the sway bars on your car? I wouldn't think you would want them on a rally car, unless its a really light one?

For loose conditions you don't really need them, but if there is any type of traction where you are driving you will want them, with the speeds I drive into corners traction rolling is a strong possibility, so the more help with that the better.

What's light?? ready to run without body, less then 3lbs right now..

I see myself popping on and off the tarmac where I'll be running it the most.
