I'm looking for a good charger, and one of my friends has one of the Multiplex LN-5014 Multi Chargers (here- http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKSY1&P=7 )

Anybody here use one of these? Looks like a nice compact unit. I was also thinking of the Duratrax ICE, or the newer Team Checkpoint TC1030. Right now, I will be charging the 6 cell Elite 1500 NIMH saddle packs from HolmesHobbies, but plan to go Lipo sometime in the future.

Also, since the 5014 (or the other two) require a power source (I've never had a charger that you could not plug into the wall)- if used with a regular car battery, how long can I expect the car battery to last as the power source, before a replacement will be needed?

Thanks Much!

1.I would suggest looking at some hyperion chargers, like the JRH sells, http://holmeshobbies.com/home.php, they are really good and can charge almost everything.
2.You need no replacement for the car battery once it's empty, but it would last until you sucked all the amps out. for example a 12Ah would last for approximately 6 charges with a 2Ah battery pack.

I'm pretty sure it is. One of the guys I raced with this summer had one. The options, alarm tones, everything was identical to my Hyperion.

So, am I right in that the Elite 1500 packs are 1.5Ah (amp hours?)? So I'd get say 8 charges off a 12Ah battery?

I have that charger, I love it!! Actually own two of them now "thumbsup"

Got your PM, I'll def keep that in mind"thumbsup"

That car battery idea would work in the field, but at home, might as well get the power supply! What's a good power source/what do you guys recommend for use with these chargers?

If I'm not mistaken, a PS is gonna run you another 50 bucks on average; the one Tower recommends is almost 90 bucks. For that, I would just get the Hyperion EOS 5idp which is AC/DC for ~$115 from one of the vendors. It also charges A123 cells; not sure if the Multiplex does or not.

I'll take a look at that, yep that power source is some more $$, prolly at least an additional $50 at least
