My Custom Sw2 Old School Style!!

Changed over to a 7 cell 3300nimh from Cheapbatteries.com and it was a huge improvement in wheelspeed and tourqe. The site was really easy to get around and had a bunch of options to help you build the exact battery to fit your needs.

So what's the latest with this thing, did you ever get any video or what? Looks cool I've been thinking about making one of these.

Rerelease

Well I figure its time for an update. I just finished modifing the axles in order to fit in these new 4:1 gears I got from Egressor. What a great improvement to any txt based rig. They are of high quality and strenth and should'nt have any problems with being week in any way and even saves on a lot of weight. It took me all of about 2 hours to install. I did get it running tonight and I must say it has a bunch more torque then I had expected. I think that I will change the gearing back to 87-12 and see if I can gain back some wheel speed. The wheels have also been changed to HPI and I also cut the center tread out of the masher and narowed the wheel width to 12.25". The body has also been replaced with a new CJ cut to fit more snug. As soon as the snow we just got melts I will test it some more and hopfully get up some new and improved pics. But for now I am very pleased with the results and will be able to keep the stampede tranny in after all. The new shafty wave has hit for there is no stopping this rig"thumbsup"

What kind of mods do you have to do to fit these gears in?
You will have to shave off a bunch of plastic inside the housing. I used a dremel to cut away most but theres a lot of just fitting and trimming until the gears spin freely. I may do a right up on the install later. I did have to bevel 1 side of the gear a little to help clear but will not have any effect on strenth.

I thought I saw on here some where that someone had made a diff cap skid of some type. Anybody know what I'm talking about? It looked like it would work perfect for this application and if you grinded all the way through it would still be covered.

Found it, but not sure now after finding out what was used for the material.

First Test Run

Well I finally got out and did some real testing today at the get together. First time out on the rocks since I installed the 4:1 gears. WOW, what a huge difference in tourqe. About as much as you would want before things start snaping. I changed over to an 87-14 and spun the tires with no stall problems. FINALLY, after all this time its right where I want it other then some stiffer springs in the rear.
Bender took a bunch of picks so I asked him to post them up for me. I'll post up new specs later.

Here's a few pics from today. This thing is working awesome now, the 4:1 gears made a huge difference.

Wow, awesome build! So you ended up with a 65t lathe, 14/87 on the pede and 4:1's in the axle's, is that about right? I'm thinking of copying this build at some point but I plan to run either a 3013 or 3025 from Holmes, you reckon the pede tranny will hold up to the 3025?
