my first QuadCopter: X525

ive done every other form of RC out there so figured it was time to jump into a quad. picked up the X525 from goodluckbuy.com. took 20 days to get here.

unfortunatly two of the 9x5 x3 props came damaged. ill probly order some 10" 2 blade replacements.

ill be the first to admit im a complete newb to these things. learning curve is going to be VERY steep.

of course this thing didnt come with any instructions, just a ton of hardware. assembly shouldnt be hard but it would have been nice to just know what hardware they have planed for what locations.

nice Cory, i just built mine too. I've upgraded to the DJi Naza flight controller...much more stable. instead of the Claw landing gear i made a go pro /fpv gimbal mount-skid using a large copter skid and some aluminum. the gaza is much more stable than the KK controller i tried finding an open pilot one but forget it.

yeah the KK will get me started, quads are advancing SO fast im going to hold off and wait until the booms end and upgrade once, instead of 2-3 times.but yeah right now naza has the nod, well other than price.
yeah i do plan to do something better and lighter for landing skids, cause i plan to mount my go pro as well.

nice start"thumbsup" i've been flying quads for a few years now... ton's of fun:mrgreen: I still fly planes and even a regular heli now and then... the Quads are just so much more interesting.

Make SURE you get that KK set up right and for DAMN sure treat this sucker with respect.... 4 rotors will eat the shit out of you before you know it:shock:

thanks! FC setup and flashing is what im most nervous about is its the only part thats new to me.
yeah i fly 50cc gas 3d planes, so im definatly familiar with respecting props.

I suggest using KK 4.7 and make sure you Follow the 4.7 set up as it's different on 4.7 than the rest of the KK firmwares(motor assignments)

Solder EVERYTHING, bullets are bad news when it comes to quads... bullets may not give you a motor drop out now....but at some point they will... looseing a motor on a quad is came over:lmao: been there done that8)

for your 1000kv motors i'd suggest 8x4.5's(2 blade) UNLESS you plan on carring a load like FPV or camera gear, you'll have PLENTY of pep out of the 8x4.5's on a light quad and get better flight times"thumbsup"

im looking into the 10 x 5.5 2 blades. going to be carrying a go pro. im gonna do a watt test tonight with the 9x5x3 to see how close they are to the 20A. should give me an idea if i can step up to the 10"

i looked at that too, but it was cheaper and easier to just order this kit

plus i didnt care for the look of the wood frame from HK. i love its design, but hated the wood material.

I've never flown 10x5.5's...what brand? APC 10x3.8's and 10x4.5's(slow fly) along with the EPP 10x4.5's(also slow fly) are what I've used (remember you need 2CCW and 2CW props UNLESS you shim out the tork at the motors...PIA!) anyway, you'll be fine running a 10" LOW pitch prop in either a thin or slow fly blade style on the 1000kv motors and 20A ESC... probably around 11-12A per motor WFO with most of your flying at just over half throttle even with the load of a gopro"thumbsup"

same quad a few day's later... when I went to flip it i had forgot i was on high rate(140%) and had loaded a modded firmware that increased stick scale... flip was a flip and a half... as was the second trying to recover... the last flip cost my $35 in repairs:lmao:

the X450 is just a nice flying machine... the "ring" is Dubro outer nyrod tube with red, green, blue and white LED's attached... look nice at night8)

i meant to type 10x4.5
i did a test with a dead 3s 2200 on the 9x5x3 and pulled 13A WOT. so even with a fresh pack that should leave me room to upsize to the 10" prop and still never get into the esc's burst.

well i finally got this thing done! been a hell of a learning curve!

since i knew my ultimate goal was to film with a gopro over water, after the first few flights of getting the gyros tuned, i removed the stock "hook" gear and replaced them with pool noodles. they added 1.5oz. Once i do a float test i may remove 2-3" off each one, which should get my weight back down to stock.

i covered the back two pool noodles with black duct tape for orientation

next up, more practice and a gopro mount!
