ok, short story. I started this build last year. it was going to be a 1/10 scale version of my 1:1 Cherokee. but, I never really finished it. because I cant stop wheeling it long enough to work on it. but, its time to finish it.

here why! I'm rebuilding my 1:1 xj. redoing the ford radius arm setup to a 3 or 4link setup and 4linking the rear. also boat sides, chopping the back half to a mini bed and hybrid cage. which spawned ver 2.0.

so, after finishing the ver 1.0. ver 2.0 will be started because i cant scrap ver 1.0 for 2.0.

here a couple of pics of my xj's as they are now.

started out as a stock 2wd, bought a doner xj with lift, rims, tires and a blown motor. wheeled it for about 6 or 7 months. then went d44 and 9in rear. been wheeling it for 2 years.





and the 1/10. not happy with somethinges and a lot of it is not finished. but, i have a new plan for ver 2.0

Please don't cut the back off your Cherokee if you plan on wheeling it. The unibody isn't strong enough; unless you heavily reinforce the uni-frame.

So many people say this and yet so many people do it and have no problems. if you have a vehicle you wheel hard enough to want to cut the roof off of then you should have a cage, a cage that will add more strength than a sheet metal roof ever could.

Anyway to OP, Love the rigs both real and Rc, Here is my 1:1 and there is a thread floating around with my Rc in it

yes. I have reinforce the uibody. from bumper to bumper. can't tell in those pics. plus having a full cage from front to rear. will help. should be stiffer then stock.

sweet xj's!!! I like the round headlight setup. yes, I have to agree. if you do it right. there should be no problems.

If you cut the uni-frame, you're weakening the ENTIRE foundation for that Jeep. You may not get stress cracks where it has been caged, but you will further up the "frame". People who wheel XJs get stress cracks just from minor wheeling and 35"s.

It's not just a sheet metal roof that ties everything together. It's the floor, quarter panels, door sills, and C pillars. Unless you tie the cage into EVERYTHING (that means interior roll cage and engine cage), you'll still get twisting and binding.


To tie everything in does not mean weld a metal plate to the end of the DOM tube to the floor, it means to FULLY plate the uniframe and then tie your roll cage into that.

With all of that work, you might as well sell the XJ and start with something that has a frame already.

ok, now that I'm waiting on orders to come in for my ultra4 and I was still in the styrene mode. I figured I would try and knock a dash for my xj.

yes, I've seen your build here, prolines website,.....and its pretty sweet. i did all the tube work. the front seats are out of a wraith. the rear seat is a new bright 4dr jk seat with the head rest cut off. as for the doors. I even thought about doing it to this build. but, the one I have planned next. I will. this was more of a learning build.

I have a trip coming up to Colorado and I'm getting my XJ and my Brute truggy ready for the trip. so... I robbed the rims and tires off my JK build and mounted them up on the XJ. Yeah, I think the are going to stay.

not much of an update. but, I started working on the rear quarter panel armor and tail lights. that's the third quarter panel for that side and I have not even started the other side. :lmao:
