My Newest Clod!!! Yo Daddy

that's the equation for friction. somebody said it was too light, so i made the assumption that with little wieght the tires would have little friction:

ƒ = μ * N
frictional force = coeficient of friction * normal force (weight)

did u take physics?

Man, I thought you'd come up with a complicated way of saying:

"F you, NEWB!"

Luckily I was wrong.

nope, didn't take physics and never cared too ;-)

Physics is great, but don't pull an equation off the list and use it out of context!

N or the normal force is a function of the trucks weight and the angle your trying to drive up.

As the angle increases, N goes down...

So in theory a heavy truck has more friction force, but it needs more friction force to climb it's heavy ass up a rock

A light truck has less friction force, but it needs less too.

I'll take mine as light as I can get'm thankyouverymuch.

while lighter weight will produce less frictional force, there will be less frictional force needed to stay put because of the lighter weight. im sure there is a way to figure out the perfect weight for a tire, but it would change for every surface that it encountered as the coefficient of friction changed. i say lighter is better, no questions about it.

great design dirk. it seems that there will no longer just be crawlers, but terrain specific designs built to meet required obstacles. i like the inside springs on the shocks. i forgot about that one.

Yep. While everyone is trying to figure out friction and force, I will be driving my rig to the victory stand! Seriously though.....I haven't had enough time with this new truck to give it a complete thumbs up but it does crawl very, very well. Better than Slyther and I thought it crawled well. I also don't have the 55t motors and RCguy 8 tooth pinions yet, which will help everything.

Looks like we need to have a Colorado Get Together very soon.....like this weekend at Flat Irons.

I like this comment. I believe too, that we will need terrain specific crawlers, or very versatile and adjustable rigs. Different tires for each terrain is also a must it seems. This is the way of the future.

Sounds good to me. ;-) I want to see Yo Daddy. :flipoff:

All of this begs the question then, of who will be the first to produce an adjustable, carbon fiber crawler chassis. Just think Dirk, what if Yo Daddy were CF?
Granted, carbon fiber is anything but scratch resistant, but for certain portions of the frame it would work, such as side rails and link mounts. Heck, if it's so much about saving weight, splice carbon into your bent links.

-Of course I'll have to check myself right there. I'm starting to sound like a touring car guy.

When climbing a 45 degree slope, half of your weight is pulling you back down the slope.

At angles greater than 45 degrees the force pulling you down the slope is greater than the force providing you with traction.

I used to think weight was good, but I'll take em light any day of the week.

You got a ways to go Dirk: :flipoff:
1. Kaetwo= -8
2. Pinchy= 3
3. Ace= 33
4. Griz= 40
5. Kaetwo2.2= 46
6. SparkyJ= 48
7. Jason= 60
8. Digler= 65
9. Pinchy2.2= 74
10. Bender= 87

Not so fast, Pete.

Considering your excellent driving record, that rig has to finish to win.

Given you history of breakage, all that lightweight gear is taking you in the wrong direction. :flipoff:

We'll see!!! This time I'm ready!!! :flipoff:

Breakage? My rigs rarely break
I don't think I have ever had anything break in a comp.

My panic like driving skill are what kills me..........

You have said that every time for the last year.  :flipoff:

Yeah....but would this place be the same if I didn't!!!!

And...if you notice, I climb closer to the top with each comp.
I also start each comp in the top few after a few obsticle, only to panic on the last obsticles. My nerves suck!!!

I here you on the nerves. But I think we turn it up and go to haggling the driver while he's tring to stay focused
