Hey All; Well I have been bitten by the Scale bug and have decided to take all my leftovers and build a Scaler Crawler. As the base I am going to use all my AX-10 leftovers and some parts I bought to finish the build. And to get it running in the right direction I am using my leftover electronics from my Slasher project to waterproof it for the trail action it will see.So the next problem is going to be raising enough cash to buy the body and all the scale items I want to finish out the build. So in the coming weeks I will be going through all my RC boxes and looking for some items to sell in a Monster Garage Sale. Then I will be able to get all the items I will need to build a Propper Trail Scale Crawler.I am tired of sitting back and waiting for this to finally happen. So here are a few pics of the base I will be using. It is all plastic and I am even thinking of replacing some of the bearings with plastic bushing to keep rust and tear down maintenance to a minimum. So far I have scored some Axial SCX-10 1.9 rims complete and new and just ordered some RC4WD 1.9 tires to pop on these rims.I also got some nice rock rings from a guy on RCC that is shutting down his side job work making crawler stuff. So keep posted and I will be going along the build procces.Next step will be to decide witch chassis type to run.Scale or Crawler????

Hey All; Well I went and did it. I added some alloy to the scaler crawler. I got some new links in trade for the AX-10 sting and had to transfere the old ones to here. And I neede to fix the upper 3 link mount under the servo. It had some much slop it would pop out on occation. So I added a few O-rings and washers when I installed the alloy uppet Y link since I went 4 link on the AX-10 sting I transfered the link over and ditched the plastic ones. Then slipped a drilled out collet up tight to the end and tightened the set screw. Now it is golden.I swapped out the high clearence steering link to this rig too. The stock lower link were plastic and would bend when trying to crawl.I would like to go BTA(behind The Axel) high clearence someday.Might even help with the scale look. Also dropped a Revo 3.3 lid on it and though Naaaa. I am leaning towards a hardbody so testing all the Lexan lids just keeps throwing me off.

Here is the test video of the waterproof electrics..Still works just fine. lol

So after selling off some stuff to fund this project I have been recieving parts in the mail as I sell off I buy some new goodies in exchange. The rig itself is made up of parts "leftover" from my AX-10 and Slash rigs with some needed to complete parts off eBay and forums. Now it is onto the good stuff. So here is a few pics of some of the goodies and I will be adding a step by step updates for the paint job as well.

Here is the first batch of goodies. Scored a ProLine CRG Chevy body with Roll cage and Wester Bumpers off a RCC member for a very reasonable price..And I scored a Recaro cell phone seat from another member. Here are a few pix.

Here are a few pix of the paint work as it progresses.I am going to be doing a few different things with this build.I am using Parma Liquid Mask and am going to be doing my Blue and Silver with some black.AKA my runner colors. Here is the first color.Start with the darkest and progress to the lightest color.

Here is the next color update. I am adding my blue. 3 parts blue 1 part silver backed.

Time for the next color. I added a layer of Indy Silver that both backed the blue and the next color coat all at the same time. Also after removing the liquid mask I applied the Parma mask and spray away.

Time to test fit and mount the bumpers past the mock up stage. Since I will be adding a winch I decided to solid mount the front bumper to the chassis and just body mount the rear bumper for now. Maybe later I will make something to solid mount the rear if need be. Also I decided to make Lexan cover to seal out the back sides of the Pro-Line Western bumpers. They have the holes and hex bracing in the plastic molds. So I decided to black them out with a cut to fit and screwed on scrap lexan cover plate and in the rear it will double as the rear bumper mount as well. Here are a few pics from the mock up fase and some mounted pics as well.

Front Western bumper in mock up with fake winch.Naaaaaa...

front bumper mounts during mock up. Hot glue works great. Since been bolted into place. I knew those old tlt chassis spacers would come in handy.

Rear bumper cover and mount all in one. I am just going to use servo tape under the lexan on the top 1/2 of an inch.

Rear bumper mounted up and ready to hold weight.

And here are the front bumper pics after mounting and trimming. I decided to slot the body as opposed to just cutting 2 holes. This way the body can come off without removing the bumper first. And I tested out the 2 extra light to see this option. Naaaaaaaa.......

Been working on more mock up work and some lighting work as well. Things are starting to get better and I am slowly marking off my list of things to do and ideas i wanted to try. So far so good. But I am still having a hard time finding time and $$$ to get all the stuff I want and need to complete the build. Here are a feew more new pics as of this week.

Front bumper with the new real working 3racing winch and some Bill's Custom RC Lighting LED Fog lamps mounted in the bumper. I am adding a plug onto these wires and the winch so all you have to do is unplug the body from the chassis and the wires will be run out of the way.

And a few pics of the headlight and tailight witch I made light buckets mounted to the inside of the body and added some of Bill's Killer LED's. Once the cover comes off the body I will add the light decals over the LED's for that factory look.

And to finish it off here is the rear end.I decided to paint the tail lights red from the inside intead of leaving them clear like the fronts. Nice Butt.

Nice going on the bumpers, winch(S!) and shackles! They look good with that body.
I like the blue and silver with suttle flames.

Can the body sit lower on this and still clear the chassis/other? Would look a little more 1.9 scale with it lower.
Ready for a scale chassis now? Xtrail? Other? Could prob keep the same links and make the shocks more vertical and semi droop.

What make/model are the wheels?

Nice build!

All good pionts and taken into account. I am still on the hunt for a scale chassis for it.As well as some new ProLine scale shocks to go with. But I need to sell off for some funding. I am still in various stages of mock up and refinments.I agree there is too much space between the wells and tire tops. But a scale chassis should help. Was looking into an SCX-10 chassis and shocks. But also like the looks of the X-trail. Thanks for the kind words as well. This is my first attempt at a scale build and just wanted to use what I had on hand till I am forced to go beyond that. Will be sure to keep you posted on the progress.I have been soldering lights for a few days now and will post the results.

So I have been doing some work on it since being on vaca. Getting caught up on the pile of parts starting to back up for it as of late.lol Build list just keeps getting bigger. And I have been having trouble with the light kit I wired in. :( Will get it right sooner or later. Here are few pics of it as of late.

Nice build! The dash lights are the best! Great idea and I like how you left the head/tail lights clear then lighted them from behind.
