I did my research and went to a local gun shop that is run by the family of WWII Vet that recently passed away. He has spent his time since the war restoring M1's. There were about 10 in the case. This one came home with me.

The prices ranged from $850 - $2,000 based on condition and originality of parts. I was looking at a good Springfield shooter but it had a late 60's barrel and a lot of mismatched parts. It was priced at $895. Then I found a complete Springfield with all Springfield parts with a 1941 serial number but it had been refurbished in 1966 to the more modern specs.

Then I came across the one I bought. Its a 1943 Springfield. Serial number indicates it was made in Nov. 1943. The barrel is stamped 10-43 and the markings on the stock are from Nov. 1943. Everything is numbered as it should be for the serial number except for the operating rod and hammer. They are dated later between 1944-1945 so they are still period correct. There are no refurbishing marks from any armory and everything seems to be period correct from my research. The only thing slightly out of place is the Winchester WWII era trigger guard. I paid $1,540.00 for the gun and 10 clips.

Nice gun, I should get some pics of my International Harvester Garrand. By far one of my favs in my collection.

Nice rifle.Brought back memories from boot camp in 84.Had to run for hours with one of those over my head and stand at attention holding one straight out.Plus had to do push-ups holding it without it touching the ground.Sooooo much fun!
