Pebble Pounder
I've been into RC going on 17 years now, I've been into and out of it a lot but this time I think I've caught something serious lol! This is going to be my attempt at building a custom chassis and pretty much anything else I think I can make with the tools I have access too.
First off lets start with the axles, pretty standard stuff here:
VP cases
VP motor plates
VP c hubs
VP knuckles
VP upper link mounts
Crawling Calvin carbon steering arm
NCD carbon rear axle brace
Stock gear for now (plan to run the factory ones 'till they die and then upgrade)
RCScrewz stainless screw kit
2 bolt rear axle mod and shaved bottoms on both front and rear lower cases
I can't say enough about the quality of the VP parts, its amazing the fit and finish you get out of these! I am VERY PLEASED with all the products I've received so far.
Other parts will include:
Dlux carbon D cut wheels (carbon rear rings and .780 spacers with all stainless hardware)
Losi Boss Claw tires shaved and sipped with CI foams
Traxxas Big Bore shocks and Losi Mini-T springs with JD spring cups (plan on doing the shock cap mod and lathing the bodies down as well)
Lower links will be 3/16 6AL4V Ti and uppers will be .125 carbon rod. Steering links are already complete, just waiting on the balls to show up. I ordered both Ti and Aluminum balls, I'll more than likely run the Ti ones unless the Aluminum ones are a lot lighter.
Turned out pretty light, I'll see how much the balls add and give you a final weight hopefully this weekend.
Ok now the good part
The chassis is cut out of Quasi-isotropic twill weave CF from Dragonplate.com. AMAZING quality stuff, very nice mat finish and the twill weave makes it look sick IMO. I cut it using a combination of Bandsaw, Coping saw and a dremel lol, its not CNC quality but it will work, and if it works well enough I'll get a few cut on a CNC! The cross braces are .250 Delrin and the shock standoffs are actually Align Trex 600 cross braces I had laying around lol. The braces at the front are made just like my uppers are going to be, .125 carbon rod with traxxas rod ends, glued with 30 minute epoxy and pinned.
It measures 8.375 long, 3.125 high and 3.25 wide with the shocks installed!
It came out pretty light, this is with 4 steel balls and all stainless hardware!
I just got my Dlux wheels and shocks in the mail today, so I'll be shaving tires and working on shocks this weekend, and hopefully get some links done so you can see the final setup! Let me know what yall think!
