okay, i dont know that much about aluminum, well anything for that matter  , but heres what im looking for:

Al. tubing that with an inside diamiter that i can easily tap for 6-32 thread, for links. what size tubing do i need. id rather not drill out anything if possible, i dont have a press. where is a good online place to get it. hobbytown has something like what im looking for but it comes in 12" sections and there would be a lot of waste.

also i need nice quality 1/8" sheet Al. im going to make some custom shock towers for my mountaineer and need this stuff.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

maybe someone could make a sticky of good resources. on savage-central we have a sticky labled "lil' black book of savage resources" Only we could exchange savage for crawler, duh.

Try these places:

Apparently, you're looking to make links, but, don't use tubing, as it will bend upon impact, even slight impacts. Use aluminum rod, .250" or .312". They will have to be cut to size & drilled, but, this is the price you pay for durability over tubing

The thing about buying aluminum from LHS is you don't usually know the grade......cuz they don't(!). What you're looking for is 6061 or 7075; 2024 is too "soft" for what you need, (6061 is very strong, but 7075 is stronger, but, heavier). As for making shock towers from .125", I'd go with .250" for rigidity & strength, although, .125" in 7075 should be strong enough.

When I buy, I always buy in quantity, so, if you buy a 12" section, what you have leftover is not waste, but, material to make something else.

im not sure of the grade at the LHS but i tried to bend it and didnt have much luck. and im not going to be impacting on them much. just slow crawling. but any way thanks for the links guys
