Neu motors on the horizon

Neu motors is a new company in Cali that produces brushless motors. They have multipole inrunners with tighter tolerances than all other manufacturers (except two german companies). What good is this? Efficiency ratings in the 90's that are actually true for all produced motors, not just the one they spend days perfecting for the test. Big whoop huh? How about a 2hp, 60K rpm 550 motor that will CONTINUOUSLY produce 2hp without overheating. The same motor can run no load drawing under 10 amps.


Also, they are producing "pancake" style 12 pole inrunners. All the torque of an outrunner, all the efficiency and no load current draw of an inrunner. My wheels are turning, are yours? :mrgreen:
 
a 55t lathe motor could be pushed to a 1/2 horsepower pretty easy. thats 375ish watts. You would have to deal with cooling and arcing, but it would still get there. It probably wouldnt last long though. Also, the efficiency would be 50% or less. Probably closer to 30%, so your true power wouldnt be but < a 1/4 horse.

Most of the differences between power of brushless and the brushed motors that you are familiar with are the magnets, armature, and winding quality. Well heck, that's almost the whole motor. The magnets are much stronger, the armature (if one is used) is made with eddy currents and hysteresis losses in mind, and the winding gets better with price (just like all motors).

There is one problem with these motors. Powering them isnt cheap up front.
 
2hp is overkill for a geared down crawler. Revo shafts would be toast if your axle pins didnt break first. I have found that 1hp geared down , and even .5 horse geared down works very well on a 10 pound rig.

with 2 horse constant an emaxx could probably hit mid fifties or better. an 1/8th buggy should get in the 60's. We are talking 20 cells though.

Freakin insane definetly describes these motors. I doubt that a stock lathe on a 6 cell pack like the ones that we use puts out more than 1/8 horsepower.

I could see that happening. What my little, very little, brainbox came up with was a direct drive maxx axled crawler. The only thing that clods have over shaftys is no torque twist, and no shafts. stuff like that. If there a gearbox atatched to maxx axles that would give you the greater diff clearance that makes maxx crawlers worthwhile.

and that line is the middleweights too (but the comp series basically designates usage with fewer cells). I was discussing with a friend today on getting a brushless bike running..
