I simplified the roll cage

3D printed a straight bar for up front to replace the light bar

Moved around the electronics, lowered the body 4.5mm and swapped to some heavier wheels.

Its driving much more like a 1/10 crawler like I know it, its my first mini.

I did an bunch of other tweaks, build thread here http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/micro-scale-rigs/609167-whittling-scx24.html
Nicely done
My son and I had a friendly competition in the backyard. He had his SCX24 and I had my CR24. I wasn't able to do a tenth of what he was doing, so I grabbed my SCX24 and we had fun until it got dark.

I absolutely love these little guys. It's incredible how capable they are, especially after seeing my beloved CR-24 be put to absolute shame.

Photo is my 1/10 bridge with an extra stick in the middle that allows the scx24 to drive over. [emoji108][emoji108][emoji108]

I can't wait to take mine over the bridge I have built
I slapped the rgt wheels on mine and removed the led bar.

Looks great that way
Mine arrived today, right out of the box I had to do something about the bouncing suspension, a little gob of Green Slime on the shock shafts went a long way to getting rid of the bounce. I also swapped out the springs for some micro T springs, medium front, soft rears. The springs aren't the correct diameter but a little persuasion to open up the ID of the spring and they will fit and make a HUGE dif. over the stock ones. Just my .02 cents worth...lol
I think I agree something to slow the rebound
I think that white plug is a PH 2.0.

That 2nd one linked is the heaviest one I've seen so far at 1.7 oz, most of the others are close to 1 oz. I personally dont think that I need the extra capacity, I seem to get 45 minutes or so run time with the stock 350 mah.

BTW Amain has both of those batteries for less (IMHO Amazon is a terrible place to shop for most RC stuff) https://www.amainhobbies.com/gens-ace-2s-lipo-40c-battery-7.4v-800mah-ga-b1007/p578767 https://www.amainhobbies.com/tattu-2s-lipo-battery-75c-7.4v-650mah-tat-75c-650-2s1p-xt30/p635608

those are interesting though I'd rather avoid spacing out the wheels.

I know the old put some BB's in the tires trick has been cast aside now but I wonder if that might actually work good on a mini. After all the stock wheels dont even use a foam.

I also started looking for a sub micro servo and remembered that Amain (Eco Power) just released a sub micro servo for the TRX-4. At the time they released I was thinking well thats just too much torque for the diffs and 2 speed on the TRX-4 but hey this might be nice for this application. It has 64 oz in/13 kg cm which looks to be roughly twice as powerful as most. Though I wasn't able to find any specs on the Axial AS-1 servo so I dont have a point of reference. The Eco Power 640 is unfortunately one of the most expensive sub micro servo's at $29.

I happen to have seen that Eco power at a lhs. I may go grab it tomorrow

I got mine today and it does surprisingly well. I think the tires need something or maybe as stated above something to slow down the shocks bounce. Some great ideas in hear already.

Does anyone know if you can flip the worm/pinion on the axles? I want to 4WS mine and noticed if I put a front axle in back, it would spin the wrong way. I havent opened my axles up yet. But Im not sure if it's even possible with worm gears.

Anyone know?

I saw a post on Facebook where a guy had 4ws on his, but I have no idea what he did to get it there. Look back a few days on the SCX24 or Micro crawler groups there and maybe you'll come across it (he had the green version).

Swap screw/worm gears, you'll need to buy second set of front gears. Dont' know for sure if this will work, but they can be cut for either rotation, therefore I'd expect this should be same. Buy another front axle off eBay since not sure if gears are available separetley yet.

How are you guys charging the batteries for it? My charger just broke where you plug in the micro usb plugs in.

I made up a adapter so I could plug the battery into my regular charger using a PH 2.0 connector that I believe I cut off of a RC4WD winch controller. Then I put a XT60 (to plug into my charger leads) on the other end because I didnt have any banana plugs to be able to plug into the charger directly.

Amain has pigtails of the female PH 2.0's https://www.amainhobbies.com/betafp...-female-pigtail-cable-8-bfpv-00312657/p861527
Though I'm sure you could find them for less somewhere else.

A Tamiya Bullhead body (I haven't put the trimmings on yet) on 6x6 chassis I found a while back on some Chinese website. The rest is a hodgepodge of SCX-10 parts and a bunch of 3D printed mounting hardware. The bed was 3D printed as well.

How do you like the Ambush? Would the rear axle allow for a 6x6?
The problem with the Ambush is parts support was almost non existent when they were being sold. Since it's been discontinued it certainly won't be getting easier. 6x6 should work the same as the Losi

Sweet! "thumbsup"

Yep, that's why I never buy any car/truck/crawler from Pro-Line absolutely zero support and might be around for 6-12 months....I'll pass lol.

Axial, Vaterra, Tamiya, etc tend to keep models around long time and even parts after the item is discontinued. I think the Axial SCX24 is pretty nice and should be around for long time. "thumbsup"8)

spoo76. Do you have a set of Scramblers to compare these to size wise?

I’ve got a set coming for some reason. Couldn’t help myself. I’ll have an entire rig coming before long. I know I won’t be able to not.

Guys, tell me these components will work with the SCX24, including the servo, 88t motor and esc!

We'll, the url won't post right, but it's the upgrade kit for the cr-24.

"Features:
Independent waterproof crawler ESC (specifically programmed for crawling)
High-torque brushed motor (88T)
Faster servo with more torque at the same time
3 channel receiver
Battery: LiPo and NiMH compatible
Protection for battery and temperature"

The upgrade kit is all standard universal parts. The motor should bolt up and is probably the same or similar to stock scx24, ESC should work with any RX. The only part that might not fit without mods is the servo, and some have already fit a larger servo

Here's a comparison. I was building tires and figured I get a couple shots for ya.
