New blazer

I have both trucks, they make a nice pair. Be prepared the Blazer is about 3in longer and 11/2 in wider even though it is 1/4 in shorter wheelbase. tried to make my Blazer a class 1 truck but 4.19 tires look REALLY bad and tiny on it

I was wondering about that.

My crawler buddies took one look at my new Blazer and said, 'but the tires are so small'. I said they're 4.7's, just like the others. I got the .

Seems to me the WB is the same for the DeadBolt - 12". So I think I'll get that body, some hop-ups and some wheels and tires to make it more of a comp rig, and then convert it back to the great looking Blazer for trailing once in awhile.

Or just extend the WB out and set it up to be my vintage truck pulling my vintage travel trailer. ;-)

Seems like I should get both Blazers out for some pics...here's my other one:

Took the Blazer out for it's first hard crawl today. It did very well with the body being so huge and all the bumper overhang. Not as good as my 2017 Wrangler but it has a few mods and is 3in smaller and 1 1/2in narrower. But still very happy with how it ran. Decided my tire/wheel combo for it is the proline BFG krawler T/A 4.75 on plastic Incision wheels

I took the classic alloys off my wrangler and put them on the Blazer - whoa, these are the shiznit, and the sx pitbulls are a perfect size. This thing actually crawls pretty good now - weighted front wheels helps as does the wider tires. They stick better too. Shortened both bumpers at least a quarter inch, trimmed the body to fit, and put all metal pivots in the steering linkage - they had too much toe-in. Checked all the screws - lots of not so tight fasteners. Suspension preload is backed all the way off. Who says there isn't TT on a Axial - HaHa.. 3S works just killer.

Pics tomorrow...just a teaser here... :)

As promised...I have to re-size my images before uploading them to photobucket - they don't do that automatically anymore. If I use the online program to do it they get all pixellated. So here are a couple of decent resolution of my Blazer updates...

Sucked the bumpers in, front and back. Had to trim the body some for both bumpers, mostly in the corners, but in the center as well for the front. Shortens the whole rig by just over half an inch and improves approach and departure quite a bit.

The Pitbull SX are about 4.5" overall with a lot of tread so they're darn close to the stock ones, but much wider, way more grippy, and IMO the MT Classic style slotted mags are just ideal for this vintage. And the fronts have the brass discs that look like rotors and add a couple of ounces to each wheel - really helps with uphill traction.

Peeled off those sponsor/brand stickers off the sides too. Already broke my mirrors, so not sure what to do for them.

A bikini top is in the works - this cage is quite a bit longer than the Rubicon Unlimited one from a few years back - I have a couple of those tops but they don't fit, so I guess I'll have to sew one up from scratch.

Crawling performance is much improved. We are getting someplace now... "thumbsup"

Did some improvements today . Brass parts and ebay wheels ,, On a budget for this one to see if I might keep it , The HR brass knucks are nice ,The weights needed a litte work from my lathe to get wheels to clear, Lower the weight,, Looking at moving battery to high for my like-in,,

I was looking at the same parts online...good to know they fit this version of scx10. "thumbsup"

These 'solid axles' have me confused.

NEWS FLASH NEWS FLASH

The clear body is out - about $55...you just can't order one 'till I get mine.
At Axial: Axial Racing - 1969 Chevrolet K5 Blazer Body - .040" Uncut (Clear)

(Amain is taking pre-orders - not sure of release date yet)

Found them looking for an option for replacement side mirrors since I broke mine off first run. AX31549 (I think) is the chrome kit - has the grill, handles, and mirrors on a spru - $19. But they come with a new clear body too. "thumbsup"

Tower Hobbies says they have the grill and mirrors etc in stock. Clear K5 Body calling for an early August arrival. Allegedly.

Yes, absolutely. The spec on everything is more dainty than an Ascender - frame, shocks, axles, trims, bumpers. Even the body is thin. All of the plastic bends very easily - it's almost like a wet noodle. LOL

It's fun to drive, articulation is good, traction just so-so, but no where near what my modified Ascenders can do. And that body - and 12" WB, it hangs up on everything. Approach and departure are 'scale' - reads: drags on everything. :)

Boy is there aftermarket hop-ups for Axial though. Wow!!

Haven't broken any Axial "wet noodle" plastics. Still running the plastic end link balls still. Plastics with flex is good in places, not in others. Just because it flexes, doesn't mean its pure crap. Axial actually uses several different compounds to create the kit that you are bashing on the forums and down the trail.

You might want to change up your driving with less bash and more crawl. "thumbsup"

Whut?? No bashing here. Are you insulting my driving? Seriously? LOL

A axial is not built like a ascender, just sayin'. Jury is out for me, but I do like it.

This is awesome! I really like it with the shiny 8-hole wheels.

It's crazy (in a good way) that the SCX10 body drops right on the TRX-4. I wish all companies shared body post locations.

What other crawler brands do you own besides Axial?

I seen a post about the release of just the 69 Blazer body ,went looking for paint jobs and like these ,,"thumbsup"

I find it funny how the front body holes almost line up perfectly on the TRX4 chassis. Almost makes you wonder if Traxxas did it on purpose. My guess is that they did in a :flipoff: way

The Vaterra Ascender front mount is an even closer fit. All I did was rotate the stock TRX4 front body post mount 180deg and the fit was perfect.

I want to pick up one of the 69 Blazer bodies, I hope someone comes out with a hard top for it.
