I know a lot of you are digital camera nuts so I figured I'd ask here. Looking to get a new camera for myself. Looking to spend right around $200-250. I like point and shoots but want to be able to adjust the settings a bit more for advanced shooting (shutter speeds and what not).

Anything like that possible in my price range?

Just been doing a little research and am looking at these 3 cameras;
Fujifilm FinePix S2000HD
Cannon PowerShot SX120 IS
Nikon CoolPix L100

Anyone using these? Whats your thoughts? Post up some pics that you have taken for reference.

I bought a camera from fujifilm that was in the $200 price range and the picture quality wasnt good at all I would stick with the nikon or the canon "thumbsup"

For starters, don't get caught up in the high megapixel hype. Unless you plan on doing some 24" enlargements, it really does not make that big of a difference, stick with 6mp or higher. Nikon cameras have the best optics out there, kodaks and cannons are fine too, but the nikon will have better lenses.

As far as you price range goes, you are basically looking at a point and shoot, spend a little more money and get a much better camera.

Used is a great way to get a semi-slr digital, basically a pont and shoot that can be operated manually but will have a fixed non removable lens, still has zoom but just not the interchangeability. And it will take noticeably better pics than a point and shoot due to the lens. Yes lens size does make a difference.

When I get home from work today, ill post up a list of good cameras for ya as I'm just on my phone right now.

Also pay attention to the zoom. You want optical zoom not digital. Optical will give lot sharper pics. Also if you are planning on taking close ups make sure you have a macro function. I use the macro on my Lumix more than any other setting. But it is used mostly for my how to pics in the model car mags I write for. I like my Panasonic Lumix camera. It takes great pics and is easy to use.
If you have a real camera shop in your area go in and play with a few different ones. Also check out the forums on different cameras before you buy. I was leaning towards a Nikon but saw too many complaints about the lens gears jamming on the model I was looking at.
Good luck!

Just another newby on here so ignore me.

Hi

the best one of your listed ones is the Canon PowerShot SX120 IS

BUT there are way better Cameras out there for the price, for example this ones:

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX37

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ10

You should look for a Panasonic, those are pretty good for the price!!

OR this one:
Samsung S1050
