NEW Chassis for Micro Crawler

I will definately be picking one of these up.

A few questions though... (I will still buy one regardless of the answers)

1. Do you think your car performs as well going back to a shorter wheelbase?
2. You were talking about different settings but I don't see any way to adjust this chassis.
3. Which lipo pack do you use? (your 7.2)



#1 On some obstacles the shorter wheelbase works best, on others a longer wheelbase rules....it just depends. I like both and have trucks set up both long and short. The performance comes more from the articulation, properly weighted wheels/tires, and driver control.....not from a few mm's of wheelbase

#2 Read the review again where I talk about the screw length and tightening down the ends of the arms.
Use the short screw and tighten it down on the end of the arm for less articulation.
Use the longer screw and allow the arm end to float for more articulation.

#3 I have several I use, some are 350's from HobbyCity, and I have some 240's from Aeronuts

Ordered mine today too!. So psyched for this thing to come in and see how it works..:twisted: I opted for priority, I want it fast..
 
A couple of additional notes:

#1 This chassis set-up is extremely light! I never thought to weigh the components over the last couple of days, but today we were running and got to wondering about why the chassis worked so much better than the stock chassis and weight came into the conversation so we did some comparisons.

DP Torsion Chassis 4g
Stock chassis with shocks, upper links and balls 20g

So with the DP chassis you are saving around 16g....over half an ounce! That is huge weight for the size of vehicle....and its all weight above the axle line, so the DP really lowers the COG!

The weight redistribution was the selling point for me. However, it appears that in DogB's test videos it isn't holding the rubber to the rock as well as the heavier chassis.... DogBreath, was the lighter chassis an issue with traction and did you have to compensate with more wheel weight?

My test truck did lose a lot of weight....kinda a crash diet, and no I did not compensate the tire/wheel weight. So yeah there are a couple of places where I had a bit of tire lift....but it wasn't bad....and on that note I will say that torque twist under power is all but eliminated by the chassis set-up.

I will go back now that I have a bit more time and weight everything specific for this chassis....I am sure that it will only get better, and I am already very impressed!
 
Just ordered mine and some spare parts...took advantage of the 10% off too. I can't wait to spend some time comparing it to my other two chassis.
 
i dont know if this was said or not but what tires are you using and where to get them?

Take a minute to read the thread and your question is already answered :flipoff:

The tires are the Urethane resin copies of the So-Real Boggers with the inner lugs cut out, they are solid. They look good but are expensive on eBay, will soon have a local supplier for these hopefully at a reduced price.
 
I asked Dogbreath on another forum about a longer wheelbase version and he mentioned something about a 10mm longer one being made for him to test, or something along those lines, I'm sure he'll correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, my point in posting. That extra 10mm still won't net me the wheelbase I'd like so I had a thought. What if you used the torsion chassis as it's sold, but made the upper link mounting points farther towards the tranny, in conjunction with longer lower links. That way you could use the available chassis and get the longer wheelbase. I'm sure it would effect the springrate of the torsion, but not sure how much.
 
Got mine in today"thumbsup". Works "OK" I need to order some wheel weights, I have 1 ounce of lead stick on weights on the servo. I did notice a improvement, it is alot more smooth and predictable. Climbs better do to the lower cog. I actually lost flex tho...:x I'm not sure if it's due to wheel weights or what. Also, the website says they are dyeable, well what dye? I tried to dye mine with rit tonight and that doesnt work.

Did you tighten the screws down tight at the ends or leave them part way out?

(The screws that attach the torsion bars to the servo or rear deck)
 
Yeah then it's probably a weight problem....get some more lead in the tires and it will help, I run mine pretty heavy.

As far as Dye for the Chassis use RIT, and yes it does work

Thats the exact stuff I used, and it just beaded off of it, it's kinda crap brown now instead of black. I used half the bottle in a 16 oz cup filled the rest with hot water and let it sit for about 3 hrs, just beaded right off of it.
 
Not sure if it makes a difference but I've always kept the dye at a boil on the stove when using RIT. Maybe it wasn't hot enough?
