Hi guys,

I wanted to share my progress so far on my SCX10. I got a RTR Honcho last week and I spent some time over the weekend getting the first couple of mods done. I don't have any experience with scale RC's, but I built a 1:1 trail set up Jeep TJ and I am blown away at how realistic these scalers are!

Here is the Bronco so far. Nothing spectacular, but I like it. I am still waiting for a bunch of parts to come in the mail....

Body mocked up on stock wheels but not mounted yet

Body mounted and got my new wheels on. I was going to use white wagon wheels but it seems like everyone has them, so I went with white steel-looking wheels

I am waiting for a winch and some suspension parts to show up soon, and I'd like to waterproof everything. I'm also looking forward to finding some events or get togethers around my area so I can see some other rigs!

Dan

Nice "thumbsup", I really like the color.

Have you considered cutting off the stock bumper, intsead of having two bumpers? The stock one and the tube bumper look cluttered together. Just a thought.

The body looks great and good choice of wheels. I bet some Rc4wd tires like Rok Lox would look right at home under that body.

thanks for all of the complements! I have been back and forth about cutting the front bumper off. I wanted to make it look as if the tube bumper was there as a winch mount and added "protection" for the stock bumper, so I might end up trimming the bumper to fit a little bit better. As for wheels I like the way these turned out, but I realized that smaller 1.9's or even a nice set of 1.5's would have been better. I have the suspension jacked up a little bit to make everything fit without rubbing, but I would prefer to run smaller tires and be able to lower the suspension down over them. This is my first shot at a scaler so I am still learning and I'm sure that my set up will change as I get more into this. thanks again for commenting!

Welcome to the Bronco club

Nice colors on your rig. The wheels are sweet, I always wanted to get a set but not sure if white or steel.

I'm assuming the body is The "Proline Bronco", Nice!!!

The 1.5's will definitely be better and will reduce wheel/body rub with the right tire combo.

I'm using the Irok 1.55 tire which is 4.50" and this allowed me to lower the body.

Im thinking of getting something closer to 4.19" tire size but want to research a bit more.

1.55's and Irok tire setup:

DAMN!! I like! Is that the proline bronco? Normally I'm not a fan of those but you really made it look good. Excellent work. I'll be watching this one for sure!

Thanks for the input guys. Yes, it's the Proline body with a set of 1.9 Flat Iron's which are 4.2" = 107mm tall. I have everything set up so that the tires do not rub at all (surprisingly). They are really close to rubbing in the front but everything just barely clears. The problem, however, is that I am not getting as much flex out of the front end as I'd like, so smaller tires and softer springs would be nice. I'd like to find a tire that is closer to 100mm, so the mud thrashers could work if they are pretty close to 4". I am also thinking of getting the steel colored wheels like Lobonyc mentioned, just to see how they compare to the white. I figure that I can always paint them white if I want. I will post more pictures once my winch (and possibly a new set of 1.5 wheels/tires) get here. I also want to possibly add a roof rack and a tire carrier on the back... Oh, also last night I was almost done modifying the stock Honcho fog lights so that they fit into the body as headlights. I will have that done tonight after work so I will post some pics. So far I think it looks good, but I hope the lights don't look like crap when I'm finished.

Is the body not wide enought for the wheels to tuck under the fenders? That's why I like the hpi bronco. All 4 wheels just barely tuck into the fenders but it makes for awesome pictures when they do. Go
Check out my bronco thread if you want, maybe you can get some ideas from it. I'm runnin stock scx-10 flat irons. I love em. A really great all terrain tire. I like the body but if it was me I would lower the body alot more so your tires fill those wheel wells. That's just me though. I like the low-lift look.

93 you are exactly right about the low lift look. I really like that style too, and I would prefer to have my body lower so I don't have so much wheel gap. The only reason that I have the gap is because the wheels rub the front and back of the fender flairs if the body is any lower. I don't want to trim the flairs because I love the look, so I was stuck with keeping the body high. If the Proline body was a little wider that would probably help. I am going to mess around with the body position tonight to see if I can get it a little lower but still keep the clearance. 1.55's might be my best solution for being able to lower the body down around them.

Salmonface (haha nice name), thx for pointing out the bump stops. I was thinking of removing them if I run 1.55 wheels to get some more flex. I can just cut the bump stops out without taking the shocks totally apart, right?

I get ya, about the tires rubbing. You could maybe get some negative offset rims to narrow your tracwidth a little more. That may help reduce the rubbing. I can't tell from the pics how far out your tires are. Normally they tuck pretty nicely on that body. Interesting that they won't on yours. Well the more you screw with it the more you will learn ways to fix the problem. I only recently (last night actually) got all 4 of my wheels to tuck perfectly. It's just trial and error.

You can cut the bumpstops if you are lazy like me. Or you can disassemble the lower part of the shock and just slide them off in case you ever want to put them back on or use them on another project. Truth be told u removed mine thinking I might use them again one day and never have. I don't even know where they are anymore.

93 FORD BRONCO has a point about the lower body and less wheel gap looking good. It's bad-ass!

I trimmed the bumpers off the HPI Bronco body so i can lower it even more (about 10mm). Then I replaced the shocks with 90mm ones which lowered the ride height (a little to much so i went back to original scx10 shocks).

My 1.9 wheels and 4.65" tires were nice but rubbed the body like hell; i did not want to trim original flares. I didnt want to use the Axial fender flares either. I swapped 1.9s for 1.55's and mounted at set of 4.50" tires. They look way better (scale wise) and tire rub is minimized. I'm not going to say its gone 100% because i have soft suspension but it is a good compromise. I'm still looking to eliminate it more without killing the look. I'm going to play with the springs a bit.

By the way I have the 1.9 dick cepek tires & those are 3.97". They eliminate tire rub completely but are too small on my Bronco. It takes away the muscle look & lowers the clearance. I found myself getting stuck on everything.

If playing with the springs doesn't help I'm going to try a set of 4.19" tires or something in less than 4.50" and more than 4.19".

Don't mean to jack your thread but I thought these might give you some inspiration

Here's my overall stance

Not as low as I would like it to be. But any lower and the tires wouldn't tuck they would rub.

Here's a front and rear shot of my tire tuck.

It took me about a year to get my bronco to the point it's at now. And I'm still
Not totally satisfied with it.

that's a great stance on yours 93! That is more of how I want mine to look... And Lobo thx for the advice on the 3.97" tires. I was considering a set today that were about 3.9" and I kept saying to myself "damn, I hope these aren't TOO small". So I haven't made any decisions on the tires yet... However, I did get the lights finished tonight. I love the look but it is a pain now to get the body off quickly. I have to undo the back and rotate the body forward, then undo the lights and front clips to remove the body. here are a few quick cell phone pics from the garage...

I may rewire the lights with some longer wire but for now it's good enough for poser pics haha

ok, one last update then I am going to bed. I was happy with the lights tonight, but I couldn't stop thinking about how high the body sits. I made the body mounts easy to adjust so I messed around with the mounts and the front shocks to get the right amount of height and travel. Here is how the Bronco sits now. much lower than before. I have a little rub but nothing bad. I can fine tune it tomorrow. I just really wanted to see how it looked with a lower body.

what do you guys think? Keep it this height? maybe a little higher? or move it back to the height it was before?
