Out of my mind!!
I just got the Marlin 917V from Bass Pro Shops (they rock!!!) for $220.

It was cheaper at Academy, but I couldn't wait. I bought a Redhead 3-9x40 MM scope for it, and the scope rings. I have to remove four screws from the top ot the receiver to mount the scope bases, but they are a PITA so far. I don't want to strip them. One is getting there. I got a box of the the Hornady Express (polymer tip), and one of the CCI TNT (hollowpoint). Like my 12-gauge Maverick 88, I've yet to shoot it. I have officially gone crazy waiting. I am thinking about selling my Savage bolt-action .22 LR, and gettin a semi-auto .22 LR, for plinking, close-up small game, etc. I like the 10/22, but not the price. I am thinking about he savage, or the mssberg. They are both about $100, and can be found at Wal-Mart. As for the 917V, I love it! It has a bull barrel-what I was shopping for- a nice, crisp (for being stock) trigger pull, and is very accurate, I'm told. BTW, the one in the pic is not mine, but aside from the scope, it is identical.

Damn I was trying to hold out and not get one right now, but now I am going sometime this week. As for the Semi Automatic, the Ruger 10/22 is the way to go man. Very nice shooting and accuarte out of the box. Love mine.

Heh, yea, figures there'd be shooters on here. I just picked up a new rifle myself a couple weeks back. It's a Marlin 1895GS 45-70. It's my "intermediate range all purpose" rifle.

Another real good out-of-the-box .22 auto is the Marlin 7000T. It comes stock with a bull barrel and a red white and blue adjustable target stock with the forend rail (you can paint/dye the stock if the red white and blue looks too funny for you) It uses a stick mag vs. Ruger's cylinder style. Mine is set up with a 3-9X40 Bushnell, and it has never failed to function flawlessly.

If you want a target type .22, Ruger is also making "hopped up" 10/22's nowadays. I've never had a 10/22 fail me either that I can think of...

.22

If you weren't looking for a semi-auto I would have to say go with the Russian Tula TOZ 78.

I got mine NIB for $150 out the door when J&G guns still had them. It has been awesome. Lightweight but not too light, accurate, and all around fun to shoot.
Congrats on the 917! I still haven't got a .17 yet, but I have shot a few and it seems like a great caliber.

He is right E-bay has all kinds of things for these guns. I bought a 25 round clip for mine. Very nice. I found it at Academy. Very nice for target shooting.

sorry I took such a long time to reply, guys. We were in the process of moving out, when we had to move back in :( I fired the 917V in my garage at several scraps of wood flooring, backed by a sheet of polycarbonate, and it was a notable bit louder than my savage .22, but it wasn't unbearable. Very little recoil. Thanks, Music Maniac. I have been considering the 10/22. Does anyone know where the cheapest place to get one is? I will probably get an aftermarket bull barrel, and stock to fit the barrel, so the finish is not a concern. John Deere, if you haven't already gotten one, I would recommend getting one. I haven't gone to the range yet, but I will tomorrow. I'll let you guys know how she acts there.

Go for the 10/22 I love mine and you can get all kinds of stuff for them. I love my Hi-cap clips, I have 8 of them, I can go shooting and not have to re-load for a very long time.

No doubt the 10/22 is the way to go. I have a friend with a full auto 10/22. It sprays a 30 round mag in just a few seconds. The Ruger has an unlimited amount of aftermarket parts for it so the extra money is well spent if you want to upgrade. I just bought a Marlin 60 myself ( it was cheap)and I'm gonna get the Bullpup stock for it just to make it look cool. the Marlin is a good plinker itself and if you dont like the tube fed model 60 then you can get the mag fed model 70 ( I think).

I went to the range on sunday, and I love the rifle! I am no sniper (in any way), but I loved the way it shot at 100 yards. My Scope wasn't sighted in, and it was still shooting great! I need to get better at shooting, though. I used some CB (powderless, they just have primer) bullets in my .22 LR Savage, and you literally could not hear them, just the ring when they would hit the metal targets. I would say they work better than a BB gun. I saw a 10/22 at Academy, and a two people with them at the range, and they both said they are good. Has anyone bought any barrels from hornetproducts.com? They have some relatively inexpensive bull barrels, stocks, and accessories for them there.

ruger 10/22 are great i would highly recommend any kinda ruger though i own 4, ruger number 3 45.70 and a rugewr 44 mag rifle and a m77.270 and a 10/22

Now Im no gun person, but I believe .17 is the same caliber as your average BB gun? Cause I know my BB gun is .177 caliber... Anyways, maybe that is a BB gun john alardin posted up, but I'm not sure. And I have never heard of an actual bullet shooting .17 caliber gun... smallest I've ever heard of was 22. Please correct if I am wrong.
