New steel transmission gears notchy

I have a Redcat Everest 10 for which I had to replace the stock plastic transmission gears. I opted to get the Redcat steel transmission gears (part number 13859). I installed them today and greased the gears and reoiled the bearings. After getting everything back together I was testing it for smoothness, but it wasn't totally smooth. When I spin the spur gear I notice some notchiness for part of the rotation. It doesn't take much force to spin the spur through the notchy section, but it is notchy. Is this to be expected with new steel gears? Should I just run them and see if they break in to be smooth? Thanks.

Ya, maybe you could give it a test run( Breaking in the spur ) and see how? don't forget to report back us here. Cheers

Metal gears have tighter tolerances. As long as they aren't binding up you should be ok. As recommended give it easy run for 10 mins and see if it gets smoother.

No offense but, You're working with a "Questionable Quality" vehicle. The quality of the gears may not be very good. You could try using lapping compound on the gears and running the transmission on the bench with a drill for a while. this would take the rough spots off but, it would not make them consentric if they are out of round or off center.

Thanks for your input. I sent out the question to the vendor also. I'll see what they say, but I'll probably run it a bit and see if it smooths out.

I’ve noticed on new plastic and steel gears they wear in a bit after say the first battery pack it should smooth out.

Run it for a good while if that doesnt work maybe throw them in a vibration drum with some mild abrasive?

Update. Ran a pack through without the drive shafts attached. After doing this, I tried spinning the spur by hand again. It isn't perfectly smooth, but it's pretty close and definitely improved from before. I guess the gears just may have needed to be broken in a bit.
