New to RC crawling

Novak Rooster Crawler-Edition Brushed ESC......the Rooster is marketed to run on 2S lipo only but runs fine on 3S and you can add a Novak Smart Stop Lipo Cutoff later to upgrade to 3S.

Terra Claw Brushed Motor Combo (55T)

Castle Creations 10 Amp Adjustable BEC......youll also need a Castle Link for programming the BEC for your servo or have someone that has one do it for you (LHS?)

JR or Hitec servo in the 400oz range..they are more money but the cost now is saved later...a Hitec 7954 servo can be run off of 7.4vdc and has 403oz/in of torque.

One of my Paradox BEC jacks makes plugging your servo and bec in easy and no modifications are required for the servo or the bec.

Lipo batteries are inexpensive these days at sites like Valuehobby.com....you can get 2-3 1300mah for the price of a single nimh or nicad pack most anywhere else. While you are there look at a Lipo charger with built in balancer that can handle 2-6S Lipo's. Most can but just read the specs...if you have questions just let me know.

A Spektrum DX3e 3 channel radio system is about the best low cost 3CH radio you can get..channel 3 is a 2 position, 3 position and linear setting by choice so you can use it for dig....and its 2.4ghz so less glitching issues to contend with...

Then...from a biased point of view...lol...A Paradox Creeper Link rear axle plate...Paradox Pin Lox....HB Rover Tires (white dot)

Google any items Ive listed or let me know what you want more info about if you cant find it....

Dont forget to stop by your local tire dealer and pick up some stick on wheel weights...

Ok, so straighten this out for me. I just went to amainhobbies.com, added all of the above to my shopping cart, and the total came out to $315. And that is without battery and charger, b/c I wasn't sure which to go with.

Would I be better off going with a RTR unit? Seeing as how this is my first crawler, I'd like to keep this as cheap as possible, while still being able to mess around enough to see if I like it. How about under $200? Realistic? I'm not afraid to buy used.

Look at the links I just posted in venomcrawlerdud's thread for valuehobby and tower...that order minus the 5000mah 2S lipo he needs and then add the DX3e from just about anywhere for about $100 youre looking at around $230 shipped...or so.

Not to second guess anyone here, and I know many like the Novak Rooster ESC, but have you considered a Holmes Torquemaster Sport combo. It includes a Torquemaster Sport motor and a BR-XL ESC for $109.99.

The BR-XL is a fantastic ESC, and it can handle up to 6S right out of the box eliminating the need for wiring in a separate Smart Stop Lipo Cutoff. It also has an onboard 6v, 5a BEC. Since it's made by Castle, it's also programmable through the Castle Link.

Novak Rooster = $89.99
Terra Claw = $12.99
Cut off module = $29.99
BEC = $21.49

total (from Amainhobbies) = $154.46

Just a thought.

Welcome to RCC "thumbsup"

Now we're talking! Look at the budget minded people pouring into this thread! Haha

Another week of this and I'll just pull apart an old 12 volt cordless drill I have and make that work. Muahahahahaha!

hey its not like people havent done that before "thumbsup"

On the "cheap":
Thunder AC6 charger $44 at hobbypartz.com
Flysky GT3B $42ish at hobbypartz.com
Castle Creations SV2 or SCT ESC $50 shipped off of Ebay
Hitec 7954SH $80 shipped off of Ebay
Turnigy 2200 2S lipo $11 a piece at hobbyking.com

Motor's either an Integy 35T lathe motor at tcscrawlers.com for $27 shipped or
Holmes hobbies 35T sport motor for $32 shipped.

Your at like $250-$270, but you end up with a much better electronics package than any RTR. IMO the electronics package is almost half the capability in a crawler.

Brace the chassis and then just replace whatever breaks.

You can save the cost of a BEC by buying a high voltage capable servo, and then powering it straight off of the 2S lipo by soldering the power and ground wires to the ESC's power wires.

luke check out places like hobbypartz.com and hobbyking.com for speed controls and batteries as well as radios if you need one ( look at the gt3b from flysky ) i run one in my creeper it is 2.4 ghz the recievers are about 1" x 3/4" and you can pick one up for about $ 40 . look at the chargers as well for lipo . you will want a bec like was said before . check around for the rovers in white dot compound you can find deals on them .

Good deal guys. I'll keep you posted on what I do. Ive got a couple household things that have come up recently that come first. Damn plumbing.

If you're working with a tight budget like I was when I first started go to hobbypartz.com they have LiPo battery packs that don't break the bank. Sky LiPo and Blue LiPo brand are what I have been using for some time now without any problems. Second they have a 2.4gHz 3ch pistol grip radio for 35 bucks if you can catch it in stock.......i'll never buy another 300+ radio again, I love it! They also have chargers and ESC + Motor combo's.

Ebay is my first go to when I need parts, I picked up a Castle Sidewinder and Castle Link Combo new for 35$ shipped.

Hope this helps "thumbsup"
